I have had 2 catastrophic failures on the subject Firestone tires @ 60 and 70 mph respectively. Firestone would not replace the first tire in may, 2001. After the second failure, 8/30/02 I found a recall call notice on firestones website for the wilderness le tires manufactured in Mexico(which mine were) however it only covers dot#V672wl21700. I have appealed to the local Firestone dealer without any satisfaction. My concern is that the problem extends beyond the recall notice and someone will be seriously injured before Firestone is forced to make a broader recall.

At.155" depth of tread and even wear, tire developed 30 to 40 deep radial cracks, 1" to 2" long, between the tire outside edge tread blocks and proceeding toward the sidewall. The tire has always been properly inflated to 36 - 50 psi (80 psi cold max) and was imeadiately removed from the vehicle apon discovery of defect. There is no visible external damage to the tire and it never been off the rim. The tire still holds air. (dot number: V611 tiresize: LT245/R16)

Driving on the highway at night at 65 mph (~60 degrees) when the passengerr rear tire seemed to fall a part. By the time I pulled over the tire was completly destroyed. I have never seen a tire do that before. When I took the tire to Firestone they couldn't tell what went wrong with the tire. They said that I probably hit something in the road. I don't remember hitting anything in the road. There was no dot number on the firesone tire. The tire was made in Mexico with the following number on it 3156 ex bm 20562-3.( dot number: Bm 20562-3 tire size: P265/70R16 )
