I purchased my 2002 Yukon SLT in April of 2017, with 251,000 miles. Within maybe 2 weeks after purchasing my Yukon is when I noticed the problems. The day the problems started it was a pretty warm day, probably 75 degrees. I pushed on the brake pedal to slow down for a red light, and as soon as my foot touched the brake pedal, I heard a clicking noise, and also noticed that my rear wiper engaged and turned on (started wiping). As soon as I took my foot off the brake pedal, the rear wiper disengaged and shut off.
I figured okay, I know it's an older truck, it happens, etc. About 5 minutes later, the ABS light on the dash turned on, then the Brake light on the dash turned on immediately after, then the ABS light would shut off, followed by the brake light also shutting off (on the dash). As soon as I touched the brake pedal again, the same thing happened: the rear wiper engaged, started wiping, rear wiper disengaged and shut off, then the ABS light came on, followed by the brake light, then ABS light would turn off, followed by the brake light turning off again. This went on for about 30 minutes, happening every single time I'd touch the brake pedal.
Then out of nowhere, all the issues completely stopped. About 10 minutes after it had all went back to normal, it all started all over again, except it was from turning my turn signal/blinker on (did it with right blinker engaged AND left blinker engaged). When the problem started again, it wasn't due to touching the brake pedal, it was due this time to using the blinker. So every time I would turn on the left or right turn signal, the same problems arose: rear wiper engaged, started wiping, rear wiper would disengage and shut back off, Abs light on dash would turn on, followed by the Brake light, then abs light would shut off followed by brake light turning off. That went on for about 10 minutes. Then, the rear wiper just stayed permanently engaged, wiping, without touching brake pedal or using turn signals. So the rear wiper, at that point, would click, the wiper would wipe fully one time, then the wiper would go down into the normal resting position, then immediately after it would click, wiper would wipe once, shut off and go back to resting position. This never stopped, so I eventually just pulled over and removed the fuse for the rear wiper.
Obviously, no problems then with the fuse taken out. I waited a few months, put the fuse back in, and it was fine until I touched the brake pedal again, then it's either wipe once and shut off, or just continuously keep wiping until I removed the fuse again. Other than this, I have noticed every great once in a while that the dash lights on the left side of the steering wheel, where the buttons are for the headlamps, all the 4wd buttons, etc, once in a while the dash lights just on that left side would flicker or go on and off if I hit a decently-sized bump. I have no idea if that has anything to do with the problems or not, but I wanted to put it out there.
My father has been a Master Mechanic for almost 40 years now, and he has done everything he could possibly think of to try to figure the problem out, or even get an idea of what could be causing this, and he is completely baffled. My father has checked all the wiring, all the electrical, all the relays, all the ground wires, literally everything he could think of, he has checked....It's not that it's a super huge deal not using my rear wiper, i just wish I could figure this issue out before it causes something else to mess up, you know.
I get very paranoid about these kinds of things because I have a 2-year old son who rides in my Yukon with me....I want to make sure whatever vehicle I tote my son around in is safe, etc. So at this point, I'm really at a loss, I just want to figure out what the issue is.
