- GM should warrranty -- rats eat soy oil (2 reports)
If what I am hearing is true. GM and other car manufactures have a huge issue by using soybean lubricant(?-soy based insulation) on wiring insulation (or soybean based insulation). Rats consider the smell to be food and eat the wire insulation creating shorts. One ate up my wiring harness --disabled car -- and expensive repair. It is great to be environmental with vehicles but creating a rat delicacy under the hood is a bit ridiculous. ---- GM did not warranty -- and I understand they have knowledge and significant issues with this manufacturer created problem.

Yep, we had the same problem with mice eating through the wiring harness and rendering the vehicle useless until we forked out the money to fix it. There was no mention of the connection to soy based wire coatings but it makes perfect sense. This is the only vehicle I have ever had mice eat the wiring. I would hope that GM has learned from this and added cayenne pepper to the coating recipe if they intend to keep using soy based coatings.
