The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon. The contact stated there was a steering shaft clanking noise whenever the vehicle was being driven. The universal in the steering column failed. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who inspected the failure but had not repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer stated they have no knowledge of the failure and offered no assistance. On certain trucks, the bolt that attaches the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear may not meet specification. The bolt may fracture resulting in the loss of steering. This is from a GMC Sierra truck, but I have this wrong with my GMC Yukon.

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon. While driving approximately 25 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The dealer re-lubed the steering shaft. Recently, the failure recurred while making a right turn. The current mileage was 41,000 and failure mileage was 21,000.
