I have read many articles and complaints on the 07 Yukon with regards to the lifters. My Yukon was running great and out of the blue the Stabile Trac and engine light came on. Soon thereafter the Check Engine light lit up. I pulled out and heard the ticking and the sputtering of the engine. Had it towed to the mechanic and was told the #4 lifter was gone. After a long conversation we decided to replace all 16 lifters. Truck ran great for 3 months....then on way to work same issue. Again back to mechanic and same thing....#4 lifter gone. Mechanic told he due to the engine going from 8 to 4 cylinders the oil is still in cylinder which is creating heat, in turn turning oil to sludge, making the lifter stick. There was no guarantee that it would not happen again. Now after $2400 bill I am out another $5000 for an engine.
Bottom line is IF this happens to you replace engine and don't throw the money away for lifters. Also GM is well away of the issue because they instructed GearHead Engines to mass build these engines!!!!! Also Amazon sells the Cylinder Deactivation Device which keeps your vehicle running on 8 cylinders....Might waste a little more gas but well worth not having the aggravation.

Count another victim to GM 5.3 liter engine in 2007 Yukon XL SLT. Too bad the vehicle is nice and the engineering failed a loyal GM customer. I have a 2003 Avalanche without the AFM 5.3 liter with more mileage which has been a good vehicle. Parents have 2001 Chevy Tahoe with close to 300k and the 5.3 liter has been great.
Why did they tinker with a proven engine. Stay away from the AFM engines and the 5.3 liter. Purchase at your own risk. I was just informed of the cost to fix my Yukon. The answer was replace the engine which is junk and will not run and install a new 5.3 Liter. Thank you GM for a $6000 bill.
