initially reported problem on 6/22/11 to king o'rourke cadillac auto group in smithtown, ny. i was originally told the problem was related to the service stabilization and traction message being broadcast across my message board(dashboard).
i was notified that this problem was not covered under the vehicles 100,000 mile powertran warranty and the vehicles bumper to bumper warranty was no longer in affect. the cost that was quoted to me for this alledged problem was $433.18, as i was told i needed to replace steering wheel position sensor. i subsequently paid and had the problem corrected, so i thought.
approximately 7-8 days later i called king o'rourke auto group and scheduled another appt. to bring the vehicle back for repair as the tightness and hissing when turning the vehicle had not stopped.
on 7-5-11, i returned the vehicle for repair, only to find out approximately 2 days later that the vehicle needed a new rack and pinion system, and a new power steering pump.
this caused me great concern, as my initial complaint of hissing and tightness in the steering wheel was miss diagnosed and i was charged $433 for a steering wheel position sensor that apparently was not the problem and now i am being told that it will cost me $1524.00 to repair my rack and pinion system and power steering pump. of course, this is not covered under any warranty.
so i started investigating. i spoke with 2 family friends who happen to be auto mechanics and the both of them told me that it is very rear for a vehicle that is only 4 years old(2007 vehicle) and that only has 70,000 miles for its rack and pinion system and steering systems to need repair already. most vehicles go the whole life of the vehicle without ever having to replace this systems.
but wait that's not it, i continued to investigate and found out that gmc had a recall on there 2009 gmc yukons steering and rack and pinion systems. when i made the service rep. at king o'rourke aware of this, her response was that my vehicles vin # was not included in the recall and my vehicle would not be able to be serviced under this recall.
now please someone write me back if i am misspeaking when i state that aren't most recalls initiated after customer complaints and increased service repairs for the same problem. Who is to say that the parts used in the 2009 gmc yukon recalled vehicles were not manufactured by the same manufacturer of the 2007 gmc yukon and whether customers have not just grown annoyed with general motors and there products, thus refusing to go through the lengths that i am presently taking to file a complaint.
i did not have problem fixed.
