$7042 was the cost charged by the dealer to fix the lifter problem. When I brought it in, there was just a small noise that had just started. The service rep made it sound like the car wasn't going to be drivable for long. They made it sound like I would be totally irresponsible if I didn't get it fixed right away. Then they told me once the lifters break, they will do the same thing again.
They charged me almost half the value of the vehicle to fix it! If this happens to a whole list of vehicles (according to the dealer) why didn't GMC recall the vehicles and fix it? Well, I was told they do not have a permanent fix which is why it will happen again and they can't recall the vehicles and fix them permanently.
This is crazy! How do we know the newer models will work properly? My vehicle was maintained - never missing a scheduled service - by the dealer. Now I heard from another dealer that the problem is caused by poor maintenance running bad/dirty oil etc. They really just don't seem to know.
SOOOOOO, to keep my vehicle, I paid $7042j once - and do I just WAIT to do it again? SO FRUSTTRATNG!!!!

GM knows there is a lifter problem in their engines, but won’t do a recall. I am 26k outside of warranty. I am paying 7k out of pocket to fix.

After keeping up as scheduled with normal maintenance on my Yukon, after my last oil change I starting hearing a loud ticking sound when I started it up one day. I took it in and had it looked at and the facility gave me a quote of almost $15000. I had to rent a car for them to take the time to look at it. This quote was way to high as they wanted to install whole new motor so as I continued to look for another shop, the sound grew quieter but my truck had a noticeable reduction in power. My check engine light began to blink and I took it to the shop for repair, it is in the shop now with estimated repairs near $7000. After reading all the other vehicle owners with this issue it is astonishing how there has not been a recall. This is a very expensive fix for a vehicle I still owe $20000 on and trading it in is not an option due to amount I am upside down. The 3 mechanics I had look at it said this is becoming a increasing issue they are seeing with the active fuel management system motors.
