Same deal here, 2016 GMX Yukon XL SLT, the metallic grey, I think they called it Iridium Grey Metallic and we loved it.

Noticed the paint start fading on the hood and roof about two years ago, right around 2020/2021 - I've seen three other cars, same make, model, year, all with the same fading / dulling of the clear coat.

Purchased this vehicle BRAND NEW in September 2016. Purchased with extended warranty to 70K miles. This vehicle has been washed and maintained monthly since purchase. As this vehicle was purchased with an extended warranty it had been maintained ONLY by the dealer through the warranty period of 70 K miles (which ended around 8/2022). Almost 3 years after purchase (around 5/2019) the exterior of the hood and roof of the vehicle started to get tiny scuff and scratch looking marks.

We took the vehicle to get a wax job, but this did not remove the scuffs and scratches on the exterior of the hood and roof. We found this HUGELY CONFUSING as this vehicle had been parked in our garage only when not in use, so protected from elements. Over the course of the next few months the scuffs and scratches turned into huge areas on the hood and roof of the vehicle that could not be ignored any longer. We took the vehicle to the dealership as I was well within the extended warranty of 70k miles. After taking the vehicle back into the shop, the dealership called to tell me that my vehicles repaint would not be covered.

The dealership did acknowledge that the paint was a factory defected paint, but they would not pay for the repaint and it was not a recall as it was not a safety concern. After getting multiple $2000-$3,000 estimates for a repaint (they must strip the defected paint, sand down to the metal and repaint) I have given up on repainting. I am out $200-$400 a month with waxing this vehicle to keep the paint from peeling and rusting. My car is now almost 7 years old and It looks awful. I paid over 65K for this vehicle that looks like a junk bucket. It is humiliating. My kids hate when I pick them up from school in it. GMC is trash for selling cars with a defect like this. The car looks like a piece of $65,000 junk.

It’s a shame to pay this much for a car to look like this.

This vehicle has been nothing but problems. The first night I purchased the vehicle, while still in the dealers lot, The salesman discovered the key fob wouldn't work. They tried to laugh it off and told me to bring it back the next day, which I did. After ordering a new antenna for the module (3 weeks later) they discovered that there had never been a module installed. Eventually they received the module and after 2 weeks were able to get it installed and programmed.

After 1 fuel pump, 1 torque converter and numerous other failures, it is back in the shop to replace the taillight assembly (for the 2nd time). In May of this year I noticed the clear coat on the hood and top were wearing through. The dealer said it wasn't covered due to the mileage and it was due to the sun here in Las Vegas, except it sits under a car cover next to my home in a shaded driveway. As usual the dealer was not helpful and in fact was argumentative each time I brought the vehicle in for repair.

This is a problem with GMC Factory Paint. GMC need to pay for this problem. I have tried several time to contact GMC but they don't want to make it a recall or address the problem. I don't know how to get someone higher up in GMC to handle this problem. But it is a factory problem that need to be address ASAP. Because how can you sale a defected car with paint issue and not fix the problem. That is bad for business. Maybe public need to stop buying their cars if they do not stand behind their product. The paint is fading on the hood and the top of my 2016 Yukon Denali. It's only 5 years old. GMC needs to fix this.
