Had this 97 Honda Wagon 4 cylinder for about 35,000 miles and no major problems until tonight while driving on a two-lane mountain road. Was driving around in a valley about 100 miles before the tach and speedometer cut off. Then the fan died along with the AC. After the first switchback into the first incline, about five miles later, hit the gas and the engine died. Got a half crank and that was it. Engine compartment was extremely hot. Two hours later, the tow truck guy said 170,000 was awful early for a Honda alternator to die (if that was what it rreally was). Still awaiting diagnosis. Really like the car so if anyone has a constructive bit of advice or an idea please share. I recently had an aftermarket stereo installed if that offers any hints. Any help appreciated!
