Four speed automatic transmission completely failed for my 1997 Honda Accord LX, 4-door, with only 69,550 miles. The "Check Engine" light illuminated, while the "D4" automatic transmission indicator flashed off and on at same time. Honda wouldn't drive in fourth gear and acted as it was slipping. Vehicle was brought to Ed Voyles Honda, Marietta, Georgia on September 13, 2011 for diagnosis. Honda technician(s) advised that the "ECM Code" disclosed that the transmission had completely failed and required replacement.
I was not notified and/or offered any information regarding Honda extending the transmission warranty for this 1997 Honda Accord LX.
Is the Honda extended warranty still valid? If so, please advise asap at (770) 980-0019.

Away from home 100 miles, after no problems, the tranny fell out of gear, clunk, at 40 mph and would sometimes catch 1st or 2nd gear for a while before dropping out again. Had to coast to stops with flashers on, let it rest, start up again, till safe. In the shop now, 100 miles away. I have to trust the mechanic. I'll find out Tuesday.

Friday night went out. When I came home I parked my car but I needed to straighten up when I put it in reverse it started making a loud grinding noise and the car wouldn't move backward...I think my reverse went out...but I'm not sure what to do about fixing it..

my car died on the road while i was going on road, the transmission oil was leaking and there was burning smell. once i stopped it will start and run at 15mile/hr at 5000rpm. i guess i killed my tranny, any one had similar experience before. i never know Honda are so bad for transmission until i saw this site.

Automatic transmission failure at around 175,000 miles. Likely caused by the torque converter. I replaced this with a used Accord transmission with 60,000 miles. Transmission failed again at less than 9,000 additional miles. Mechanic refused to honor warranty. Honda auto transmissions are garbage.
