Started my 99 Honda accord this morning to go to school, and I noticed an awful noise I hadn't heard before. I started to pull out and it just didn't want to drive. Soon the check engine light came on and it just wouldn't want to drive so I parked it. I had heard about the transmission problem and was wondering when it would happen to me. Well, it did. It is definitely the transmission, not sure what I am going to do. It might just be wise to buy a different car. Thanks Honda, you just lost another customer, not that you care!

I had the car towed to Northwest Honda in Owings Mills they had the car for a day and a half I picked the car up and paid $1274.00 before I cld get home the check engine light was back on, I called the next day and took the car back I was told it could be the gas and they put in 2 cans of dry gas and told me to fill it up and ride it out and then see if that fix the problem. The next day I called the service manager who told me he was aware of the situation and to do as I was told and if I wanted the light turned off they wld be happy to do that but I stated gas prices where too high to just keep running out there to have the light turned off for it to come back on apparently there is a problem and I paid the money and I want my car fixed. I went out there 2 days later on a sat. and a guy hooked up the reader and then turned the check engine light off. The following week on Wed. when my service rep. was back to work I called to let him know that the problem was still there he said they needed the car when it was cold so I rented a car and left my car over night and called the next day about 2:40 in the afternoon and they had not pulled it in to be checked at that time. I explained that I cld not afford to keep the rental car and would be coming for my car. When I got there the service guy explained that the reading showed a #5 misfire and I needed to pay an additional $397.00 and that was a managers discount but the service rep. beside him explained that the area where this #5 is need more time and harder to get to so it made me wonder if that was why it was never done with the first diagnostic. I left that day and decided to write to the Honda corp. where I received a call back from a guy name Gene who after a few rounds of phone tag we spoke he told me he had to check with the dealer and would get back to me a week later I spoke to him and he told me I need to do as they said and just take the car back and let them fix it but he also wanted to let me know that they had stated to him that they where not sure if that would fix my problem, so I wanted to know if he expected me to spend that $397.00 for the the light to come back on and then tell me I need to spend another $400 or $500 until there Approved Service Technician would be get it right @ my expense. So now I'm in the process of finding out who his boss is and I will continue because I can't believe he gave me a dumb response like this. My mistake was going to a different dealer the one I always used after buying the car new had relocated.

2/2007 check engine light came on. was an egr error code. had to pay ~$91 to clean out the valves... was under warranty 8yr/80000 mile for the egr recall. now it is 3/2009 and the check engine light came on again with the egr error code again po401 [egr insufficient flow] i'll keep u informed with the outcome

Update from Jan 2, 2010: Took car to honda dealership to check out the egr (insufficient flow) po401 code. i also have my own code reader i purchased on ebay for $20, so i would recommend people to buy their own instead of people charging u just for a code reading. the dealer wanted to charge like $100 just to diagnose the check engine light code on my car. i had gone for a routine oil change ($38) & see what they were going to tell me 'bout the cel. anyways, they still told me the probs w/o charging. they said it was the same problem as before, where they had done the egr bulletin-port cleaning whatever on it. i told them they had done it like 2 years prior. and one of the workers said maybe it was the gas i put in my car. not sure 'bout that one. anyways, they wanted to charge about $400 for the egr cleaning etc. and also they said i needed to change my power steering pump 'cause it was leaking for $500. also that i need to change the fluid for $125. also my valve gasket around the motor was leaking for $240 and the cam gasket for $79. and wipers that i changed this summer for $25.

what i did is took my car to a mechanic shop down huntington drive called alvarado's and he only charged $60 out the door for my egr cleaning. he said it was built up w lots of gunk & took a long time cleaning it out. he checked my power steering pump & said it was ok, just that the steering fluid did need changing. i didn't do that yet. he also changed my valve gasket for $180 out the door, as opposed to 240 + 79 + tax at the dealer. they said they clean engines for $30 & would detail my car, clean carpets, polish it, clean the engine for $50, which was good, & showed me a car that had its engine clean + car polished + detailed but i didn't do that yet. if you can find a credible mechanic instead of the dealer i recommend that due to their higher prices, as long as your car isn't under warranty anymore.

i had the egr recall done on my car on feb. 2007 and conveniently the check engine light came on again (2 years from the above date, march 09), and i had the mechanic shop down the street check the code out for me for free. it came out as: egr insufficient flow. good thing i had just done my smog check on feb. 2009. it hasn't affected the performance of the car , but that bright orange check engine light is annoying. i'm just waiting for summertime when work is out to waste my time at the Honda dealership and get it fixed AGAIN. any suggestions, comments, info send it my way...

i took off at a green light, and all of a sudden i noticed that the check engine light came on. i didn't notice any difference in the performance of the vehicle. i pulled over but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. i took it to a mechanic and it read the code being the egr. he said it would be about $300 to fix and it needed to be fixed in order to pass the smog test. i did some research online and noticed that my car was still under warranty for the egr port recall. i took it to the downey Honda dealership and they checked and performed the egr recall and drilled egr ports and reset the code and rechecked it. in doing this recall i had to fork out of my own pocket the intake system service- flush intake manifold runners and intake valves, clean fuel and injectors for $91.65. that check engine light has not come on ever since. that was in feb. 2007, it is now dec. 2008
