I work in another county, Not a great day when your car is jerking and you are trying to get to work or home from work in -30 weather. Car was terrific the first year I had it now everything is going wrong. I may just tell them to come and get it. What is wrong with these stupid people making these cars. I miss the old days where you could work on it yourself and not have to go to a freaking mechanic.

On this one, I think Honda should fix it. My car has 74K and "What the heck?" I think it is still good. So does the mechanic. So--there you are. Am I happy? No. But I am not as sad as I should be. Thank goodness another corporate entity screwed me over and I settled with them. So that is what emergency money is for. We'll see!

WHEN I WAS TOLD THE JERKING OF MY CAR WHEN COMING TO A STOP WAS A " INTERNAL PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION " BY THE HONDA DEALER . I WAS ABSOLUTELY FLOORED AND DISILLUSIONAL . I SAID THIS TO MYSELF " WHERE DID YOU GO WRONG IN CARING FOR YOUR CAR ". TRANSMISSION DOESN'T GO OUT ON HONDA . SO I DID MY INVESTIGATION WITH OTHERS WHO HAD HONDA AROUND THE SAME YEAR AS MINE . MY CO-WORKER TOLD ME HER 1998 HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON HER JULY 2010 . AND SHE HAD HER TRANSMISSION REBUILT JANUARY 2011. THAT MEANS HER TRANSMISSION LASTED THE SAME AMOUNT OF LIFE SPAN AS MINE. SO THE LIF EXPECTANT OF THE TRANSMISSION IS 10-11 YEARS. I AM SHOCKED . PLEASE DO NOT THINK I HAVEN'T ENJOYED THE ACCORD . BECAUSE I HAVE . BUT NOW I CAN'T GIVE IT TO MY SON OR NEICE TO HELP OUT . I USUALLY GIVE MY CARS TO RELATIVE WHEN I PURCHASES ANOTHER ONE. BUT I MUST PUT MONEY IN THIS ONE .WILL HONDA OWNS UP TO THIS ONE. AND WHY WASN'T MY CAR IN A RECALL?

Clearly this is a problem, and Honda is CLEARLY no Toyota... I have the same issues as all of you, the slipping tranny, then kaboom, it slams down a gear or 2 while driving. I replaced the sensor on the throttle body to no avail... but I notice that when the car is at speed on the hwy it is OK but in stop and go traffic it messes up. The fix is to put the car in neutral, turn it off and then back on and put it into drive and the problem is resolved, until you stop again.. which makes me think this is some sorta electronic type issue.. I dunno. For the record, As long as I live, I will never purchase a Honda ever. I will tell everyone I know that Honda is crap, and I will buy long term put options on Honda's stock. They may have made a good car back in the 80's but they are complete crap now.

This transmission is definitely not a winner. I have dealt with the problem for the past year...a very hard downshift from 2nd into 1st. Recently, the check engine light has indicated a "Torque Converter Circuit malfunction", which is a signal to me that the time has come to replace the transmission. I've never owned a car that developed such a substantial problem. In fact, the remedy costs more than the car is worth...unbelievable!

I am second owner and bought this 99 honda accord LX V6 in 2004 with near 60K miles in great condition . I have perfect maintenance record although all my friends told me that I don't have to do this. I didn't realize the jerk between 1st and 2nd gear is a big problem which need to replace the transmission. The honda dealer checked and called "goodwill repair" . Then I was told I only got 15% cover and had to pay $2400 plus tax! I can not accept that I have to pay for Honda's mistake of their product! I will write a letter to BBB and will tell all my friends and all the people who I will discuss the car with about Honda 's service and honda's quality!
I was planning to buy honda's suv and had told my friend to buy honda's product last week. But now I will never take a look at this ugly service company . Since I work in university I definitly will affect a fair number of my students to consider of Honda.

Jerking when coming to a stop is the sign of a bad transmission. One of your only selections. The dealer did not know what the problem was and offered to flush the transmission to try and correct the problem. It did not work and only made the transmission work worse, plus set the engine light on. This appears to be a defect with the product.
Update from Mar 12, 2010: Transmission replacement is the FIX. The Dealer replaced old one with a Factory rebuilt "in the box" 30K mile warranty. Do not settle for less.

I just bought a 1999 Honda Accord Coupe used from original owners. It was covered under warranty for 100K miles, and I bought it with 108K miles. They have taken immaculate care of the vehicle, supplied all of the paperwork for repairs and maintenance and it runs extremely well. It drives very smoothly, the interior is very comfortable, the trunk is very spacey for being a coupe and the overall feel of the vehicle is awesome! This is the first Honda I have ever owned as I am a Toyota Camry person.
Having said all of that, the only thing I do not like about the vehicle is the rough shifting of the transmission when coming to a stop. I like to stop very smoothly and glide into a stopping position. For some reason the transmission around 20 MPH shifts abruptly jerking the vehicle and the passengers forward in their seats. It is not an overly powerful jerk, but enough to annoy me. I don't know if the transmission is starting to go and these are the first signs, or if this is normal for this year and make of the Accord. Nonetheless, it is annoying and if it continues I will take it to a mechanic. Hope this helps you out and I would strongly recommend this vehicle despite the minor issue I am having.

after changing timing belts, found car jumps when trying to stop and can not get gas when speedy

Car still runs, but noticed jerking when coming to a stop. Thought it was broken motor mounts when I took the car in. Last Honda Accord I owned (1981) lasted 150,000 miles before transmission died.

So, I recently moved back to my lovely country home of Georgia, currently living with my sister as I get myself situated. Thankfully, southerners are known for their hospitality and my family is no stranger of that, with that being said my sister so graciously offered one of her cars for me to use to travel to and from work and take care of any errands. I am thankful, or rather would be, had I known that this car was a 1999 Honda Accord. Had I known that this car or rather company was infamously known for its recalls and bad transmissions I would've politely declined....
Getting to the point, this car is sh*t. It didn't take long for me to start having problems with it. Mainly, the transmission, it slips, jerks, squeaks, grinds, hell it praises Satan for all I know. Now, I've dealt with vehicles that had bad trannys but this one takes the cake, not only that but the sheer fact that Honda as a company knows of the problem yet refuses to compensate, what in the end was nothing more than a waste of money, make me furious. I refuse to put any money towards this thing aside from gas and oil, I refuse to spend upwards of $1500 to get this transmission fixed! I'd rather buy a damn horse than continue with this car.
I love my sister but she deserves a switch against her backside for giving me this mechanical aneurysm.
