I have a 99 Honda Accord ex V6 and found out recently that the transmission had to be replaced. It was having serious shifting problems and the check engine light came on. The hadn't even hit 90,000 miles yet. When I went in to Honda to see what the light was on for it turns out it was a "torque converter clutch system failure" and the transmission would have to be replaced. Honda told me it was no longer under warranty (3yr, 36K mi warranty) so they claim they couldn't replace it. It shouldn't matter if it isn't under warranty. No one purchases a car, new or used, to have to get a whole new transmission before the car even makes it to 100,000 miles. Besides the major mechanical purchase, Honda's faulty transmissions are a safety hazard. I can't recall how many times I've practically been ran off the road by tractor trailers because my car couldn't shift and accelerate fast enough to get onto the highway. Honda should be ashamed of themselves. Does it really take someone to die before they try to remedy the situation?
