problem #4

Dec 172007

Accord EX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,000 miles

The problem first started December 2007. The Honda dealer said I got a hold of some bad gas. I stopped using the gas from 7-Eleven and the car seemed fine. But, then the problem began again. Next, we replaced the battery. The car was fine until Dec 2008. Sometimes it will start and sometimes it won't. Sometimes it will start with the 2nd try or it will not start for a day or two. Honda does not know what the problem is (which I find hard to believe). The check engine light has never come on and since the auto shops have never been able to recreate the problem they have not been able to definitively diagnosis the problem. Therefore, the guessing game begins. Since it had been the "bad gas" before I thought it was that again. Needless to say the car did fine until about two weeks ago. (The car now has 92,000 miles on it and it just had the 91,000 scheduled service work done it and no problems were identified). We took the car to another auto mechanic shop that is very reputable. We had the car towed to them and of course it started after it got there! They said it could possibly be one of two things: the "main relay" or an electical problem with the ignitor. We had the "main relay" changed and the car was fine. My husband drove the car from Texas to New Hampshire and it did fine the entire trip. Then the problem started again after only 2 weeks! So, the car is in the shop again and we are waiting to see what the diagnosis is this time (yet another auto shop). We are hoping it won't start when they go to work on it so at least they will be able to recreate the problem.

Accord ANY V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

This problem occurs on all 2000 Accords. The fuel line snakes above the engine. In hot weather, after driving until the engine is hot, when you park for 20 mins or so, the alcohol additives in modern fuel will vaporize. Only cure is to wait until engine cools, or run at idle with enough gas to keep it running until cooler fuel is drawn into the line over the engine. This is a design problem -- don't waste your money on a mechanic.

Accord EX V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 111,000 miles

I tried to start it weekly since I bought a new car. At first it was the ignition wire- when I had that fixed it was fine. Now, the lights in the car work, the security system works, but it makes a whining sound when I try to start it. I need help!!

Accord SE V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

My engine won't turn over. All the electrical works (clock, lights, radio, air, locks, etc.). The battery was replaced at the advice of a mechanic. The engine started. Two days later, the same problem. I then replaced the battery's negative grounding wire as it appeared frayed. The engine started. The next morning, the same problem. It appears that the cold temperatures of January mornings may have an influence.

I'd like suggestions to my problem. What's wrong with my car?
