Accord 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles
The SRS light came on indicating that the passenger airbag would not work. I called my Honda dealer and they told me that "some" of the 2000 Accord were covered in by an extended (10 year, 150K mile) warranty for this system. However, when they ran the VIN on my 2000 Accord, they informed me that mine was not covered. They could give me no answer as to why some of 2000 were covered but mine, which has this critical safety problem, was not. Honda is making a big mistake with this vital safety issue.

Accord 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles
: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle was hit by another vehicle on the driver's side, this caused the contact to hit another vehicle with the front passenger side. The air bags did not deploy, seat belts were in use and no injuries were sustained. The police were on the scene however no report was filed. The interior lights work intermittently. There are several indicator lights that do not work at all, and the lights that do work dim without warning. There is a NHTSA recall # 02V08000, regarding the fontal air bags and a NHTSA recall # 04V256000, regarding the interior lighting. The VIN was not included in the recall.

Accord 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles
The SRS unit for airbag deployment has failed on my 2000 Honda Accord LX with 104,000 miles. The Honda dealers want ~$740 to replace this unit as there is no extended warranty or coverage beyond the manufacturers 36/36 factory warranty. Considering the essential necessity of this unit it seems unreasonable for this unit should fail within 104,000 miles and in less than 6 years. I had today 3 different Honda dealerships tell me today that it can be expected that these units will begin failing at 100,000 miles! how can this be the case" isn't it reasonable to expect the safety of the airbags being deployed in a car that is in very good condition mechanically and structurally to continue for a much longer period? isn't it also to be expected that early failure of this unit should be covered either fully or partially by Honda" it is reasonable to think so. I also own a 1992 and a 1994 Honda Accord with the same SRS unit with no failures having occurred. I would like the NHTSA to investigate this matter as to premature failure occurring.

The contact sustained minor head and neck injuries. Upon impact, neither of the air bags deployed. He has not contacted the manufacturer. The vehicle has been repaired, and is now drivable. A police report was taken. Updated 11/29/05.

Accord 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles
The contact stated the passenger's side front air bag deployed without a collision while the consumer was driving a T40-50 mph. She did not hit anything. She was on a paved road and did not go over any big bumps in the road. The SRS light was coming on and going off intermittently a couple of weeks prior to this happening. No one was hurt. The dealer gave her an estimate of $2,000 to put it back the air bag back in. She contacted Honda and they decided there was nothing wrong with the air bag.

SRS light remains on. Side SRS comes on in turns. Dealer has stated that something in the seat needs to be replaced and we have no driver SRS at this time. Vehicle is under used certified warranty but dealer states this is not covered by warranty. We puchased a Honda (have owned many!) because of reliability, durability and safety. Does not federal law require SRS on current model vehicles? how can such a company refuse to fix such a major problem>>>

Contact has a 2000 Honda Accord and he says that he is having problems with his sbs-air bag light. He says the light came on and stayed on so he took his vehicle to the mechanic and he said that the wiring bundle had been cut through because someone that manufacturer the vehicle had put the bundle under the passenger side seat and they wired the bundle wrong they put the wire to the air bag over the wire to the seat. And the movement of the seat going forward and back and the vibration of the vehicle had cut the wire to his air bag and disabled it. The contact called the american Honda coporation on April 29th and they gave him a case number N012005-042900577 he talked to brian ho and he told him that he was going to mail a letter to his Honda dealer stating the problem the contact was having. So in a couple of days he took his vehicle to his Honda dealer he said he never recieved a letter so they told him they would look at the vehicle and so when the contact called back May 9th and they told him they were going to dismiss. The contact says that his warrenty is out on his vehicle and that's the reason why he thinks they dismissed the problem.

2000 Honda Accord was involved in an accident where the passenger side air bag deployed but the driver's side air bag did not deploy. The impact was on the front driver's side. Prior to this accident the vehicle SRS light had illuminated several times. The dealer reset it once, replaced a sensor in the seat back of the passenger's seat and replaced the driver's seat belt clasp.

I was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden a car cut in front of me. Then the flow of traffic came to a complete halt. I applied my brakes. The car that cut me off, moved out from the lane I was on into the next lane. I was involved in a rear end collision with Honda CRV. My Honda Accord 2000 received major damage. The front SRS airbags never functioned. This collision took place in the freeway at least 40 miles per hour. The front airbags didn't work. The Honda dealership that I took my car for repairs which came out to five thousand dollars, told me that the reason the airbags didn't work was because it was not a direct hit, in other words they didn't want to be held responsible for checking the airbags or replacing them. They stated, that there was no recall from Honda on the airbags. The community Honda dealership just replaced the parts that where damaged in the collision. The front end of the car was damaged badly, it was pushed back approximately 3 feet. I was lucky, not to have had serious injuries. However, I don't trust the front airbags because they should of functioned and they didn't. I, strongly believe that Honda Motors U.S.a. should correct the problem with the airbags at no charge. Someone should investigate this problem with this vehicle the Honda Accord SE 2000. Vehicle [xxx]. thank you.
