I just sold one of my cars to help me pay to buy my honda accord SE and two days later i find out the transmission slips in reverse and feels like your pulling a load.
I am laid off and can't do anything about it. I put everything I had into this car and lost my ass. I thought hondas were good cars. what happened?

I wanted a Toyota, but thought Honda was just as good. I guess I was wrong.

at 170,000 miles my transmission began to give me problems and it felt like it was having problems with loss of power,i was worried i was going to be stranded or cause an accident.

Hondas manufactured in the early 2000s apparently have a history of transmission problems. My car had been receiving regular maintenance and was running fine until recently. I noticed that it wasn't going in reverse up a steep hill - ie when I was trying to park.
I took this up with Honda's customer service department and tried to get them to meet me halfway - paying for a portion of this exorbitant repair bill on something they know is a problem coming out of their factory.
They refused to help pay, stating that my car is out of warranty (over 10 years old), even though the mileage is less than 85K.
My next car will NOT be a Honda.

I unfortunately purchased this vehicle in 2003 with 18k miles on it. Been having problems with the tires but that was it, everything else worked fine until April 2007. D4 light started flashing, a friend took it to AutoZone and they reported problems with Transmission. Took it to Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn. At 67,287 miles the Tranny failed. Code P0700 A/T System Malfunction, Code P1750 Clutch pressure failure. Just in the nick of time with the warranty Honda replaced it for free. Great. Only 3 years later, August 2010, at 102,503 miles Tranny failed again. Only 35,216 miles on the replacement tranny, this is really a shame. This time code 0700, code P0740 Torque Converter, P0780 Problem in Hydraulic system. My warranty was only for 12,000 miles on the first tranny. First I'll need to see how much it will cost may take it to private mechanic.
This will be my last Honda.

AutoWest Honda Fremont, CA is my honda service dealer. I just had the major service at 128K on Feb-19-2010 and after a week I started seeing my car, Honda accord exl-2000,
making jerks and losing speeds, gas meter going towards red, and car is not going beyond 40-50mph on the highway. I took it to the dealer and dealer told me after calling me back by phone, that the whole transmission box needed to be replaced.
It will cost me $3700. I just had, at last service, new brakes and tires and other major things.e.g timing belts etc. Now I'm in a dilemma after paying a couple of hundreds of dollars and car is not usable the next week. It needs another $3700 to replace transmission. I do not know what to do.

I have had my Honda for 9 years and I take very good care of it ...I only drive to and from work and an occasional short trip ...Within 1 month transmission went and I am very angry to see how many others have had similar problems and Honda has not addressed it .The car is still a great looking car ..good body but now that I see people have replaced the tranny 2 times and they still get a problem I wished I would have known this before I bought a new civic Communication is poor I have never heard from Honda with the other issues ..never again

The car failed to accelerate on an ordinary morning outing. Halfway up a short hill on my street, the engine light came on and i drove immediately to my local Honda dealer. After waiting one hour for a technician to look at my car, I was told that the car's transmission was gone. They proceeded to tell me about the cost of the repair and I was beside myself that I would have to give up my car for the next few days and that the repair would cost over 2,500.00! I had never experienced any malfunctioning of the car and to think that it is accepted fact that a transmission can go so easily. When I contacted Honda America for a goodwill repair, I was made to feel that this program was for people who had a hard time to pay their bill. My understanding was that Honda valued you as a customer and would assist in the cost of the repair. When I googled the transmission failure I was amazed to find the number of people who have experience the same type of transmission failure as I had. Honda America very pleasantly explained that due to my car's age and mileage, it would be hard to find a reason to grant me a good will repair. Before they would even consider my case, I needed to furnish them with the last two years of maintenance records for my car. Seriously, I have never kept a record of a service done to my car for the last twenty years. These records needed to be faxed to California in the next week. Sorry, I was not about to use two or three days time running around service stations asking for maintenance records when we were in the middle of an ice storm and Christmas season. So, California calls and I explained that I thought the least Honda could do was to offer the parts at a wholesale price and to cut the hourly rates of their technician. None of this was to be considered until I furnished the two years of maintenance record. I asked about why Honda did not furnish their customers with years of complaints and reliability of their transmission parts. They are going the way of american car makers and I will seriously consider my options before going Honda again.

HAVE SPENT A LOT SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF $$ TO FIX LOT OF THINGS AND AFTER I CAME TO KNOW THAT TRANSMISSION IS THE DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER TRYING TO FIGHT IT OUT TO GET IT FIXED FROM THE COMPANY, BUT THEY FAILED TO DO SO!! THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS ALMOST EQUAL TO THE VALUE OF THE CAR AND THEREFORE HAVE NOT GOT IT FIXED YET.
