While driving in the middle of a heat wave, the air conditioning in my 2005 Honda Accord hybrid had stopped blowing cold air. I had only had my car for three months, so I was confused at why my air conditioning had gone out. I took the car to a mechanic who told me that a rock had hit and damaged the ac condenser, causing the freon gas to leak from the condenser. He said that the condenser is located in front of the radiator and because of its location is will always be exposed to debris while driving. The condenser can be seen through the large holes of the vent at the front of the car. The mechanic gave me a $750 estimate for the part and labor. Since the car is a newer model, there are not old parts available. He also informed me that because the car was not designed to protect the condenser, that it is very likely that the part will be damaged again and again. This part is not covered by the warranty and I cannot afford to pay $750 every time this occurs.
