Transmission failure on 2005 Honda Accord with 75K. It went out all of a sudden, almost causing an accident.
- Lamar, SC, USA
Saturday afternoon 9/13/08, my wife experienced an unusual uncontrollably high RPM rapid vehicle acceleration when shifting from park to drive. Vehicle involved was a 2005, Honda Accord. Fortunately this event occurred in a private wild life parking area and not in an area congested with people where serious injuries/death could have occurred. Sequence of events: 1. initially vehicle could not be shifted from park to drive. Engine was shut off and restarted 3 or 4 times and she was then able to shift into reverse and back out of parking spot. 2. with foot on the brake she shifted from reverse to drive and then started forward. 3. at that time the engine started a rapid uncontrollably RPM increase and vehicle acceleration. 4. after moving forward and turning right to avoid hitting a tree head on the vehicle struck and jumped over a landscape railroad cross tie. The total distance traveled from the point of shifting into drive and jumping over the cross tie was approximately 30 feet. 5. at this time she believes the uncontrolled high RPM & vehicle acceleration stopped. 6. vehicle continued forward for 15 +/- feet and struck and damaged a heavy metal guard gate. 7. vehicle front end and underneath damage has not been assessed at this time. 8. cause of vehicle malfunction is also unknown.

Problems with the 2005 Honda Accord ex.** answer required***. the vehicle jolted everytime it was started. The vehicle also became stuck in second gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer replaced the transmission and the vehicle was returned to the consumer. The consumer still felt some jolting and took the vehicle to another dealer. The vehicle has been serviced twice for transmission problems. The key would not come out of the ignition. The consumer request that the dealer/manufacturer rescind the contract or provide her with a collateral exchange.
