Accord 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 132,242 miles

2005 Honda Accord won't start intermittently. Will not start reliably. Turning the key to start sometimes causes the engine to sound as if the battery was out of power with the engine winding down and stopping. A second key turning two seconds later to start gets the engine to turn over and continues to run as expected.

Also, and I don't know if it means anything, the odometer resets to 0 intermittently and the speedometer reduces speed even though I'm driving at the same speed. I have 132,240 miles on the Honda. This problem just started two months ago. My mechanic doesn't know what to do about it. He thinks it's a can of worms and won't or can't fix it.

I think replacing parts like the starting motor, or the starting solenoid, or the battery, or any other part will end up costing me more than I can afford without fixing the problem.

I need a suggestion as to what to do because I see this problem will be getting worse until I'm stuck out somewhere on the road. A bad feeling.

Two door locks, one starter and now I have to have 4 keys to use my car. Is there not a recall on these locks like the air bags.

New battery installed recently. Battery took by 2 garages. Only clue was a overhead interior light issue. Removed the front overhead light assembly and it has been a week with no starting problem.

I noticed that for some time now the starting process had always been fairly difficult but i thought initially it could be low battery issue not until a new battery was brought to start it after it failed to start and it still did not respond.
