We could not get the steering wheel to lock so we could get the key in to start the car. We were stranded. What is wrong and is there some defect in the ignition?

With in the first year of owning our Honda, the clutch went out. We paid $2700 to dealership to replace the entire assembly. Ever since then the clutch or related parts such as the master cylinder goes out suddenly every 12 months.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 25 mph, smoke started to emit from the front of the vehicle. The contact was able to restart and drive a short distance to park the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that the high power hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Even though I regularly maintain my car, my car stalls at random while driving and the steering also locks up. This is extremely dangerous - the malfunction could have killed me or potentially caused a serious accident. This incident happened while I was driving down a busy street road - there was no warning, and no indicator lights went off prior to this happening - the car just shut off (stalled) and the steering locked up! luckily I was able to get to the side of the road. After getting the Honda Accord steering hose replaced due to overheating, I begin to hear noises and have steering issues. I took my car to the dealership and was told that I need to replace the rack and pion steering and the power steering pump. I believe that due to the power steering hose was the cause to additional problems to the steering.

I am experiencing the same issue that was caused a recall for V6 model of the same year and make of my Honda Accord. The power steering hose leaks on the catalytic converter and smoke started when I was driving. I just want to report the same issue for 2.4 L (V4 model) that was reported for V6 models.

The mechanic stated that the steering pump would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The recall only covered the power steering hose and no other components of the steering unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Honda Accord 2005 2.4liter vtec 4dr/LX power steering fluid hose feed is leaking and Honda wouldn't cover repairs. The power steering fluid hose feed is leaking because of cracks on the line.I have been adding fluid to the power steering reservoir for three months twice a month. Last week I took the car to the dealership where the car was purchase in 2005 for regular maintenance and they saw the problem and diagnose. They indicated that the problem is part of the recall from Honda last year. After running my car VIN it came up that my car VIN is not part of the recall VIN list. I ask them why it is not part of the list. Since my car was purchase in 2005 brand new and is part of the model year between 2003 to 2007. They say I should call Honda and ask them about the car. So today 3/13/2013 I call Honda and they indicated that my car VIN is not part of the recall list as well. Even though it is experiencing the problem from the October 2012 recall. They said it can't be cover. I will have to paid out of pocket. The dealership is charging about 500 to 600 for labor and parts to replace the bad power steering hose. I am writing to report this problem about my vehicle VIN not been on the recall list. Please help. Concern 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 liter vtec single owner.

The vehicle began veering right to left independently. The vehicle crashed into a curb and finally landed on an embankment. The contact stated she was informed of NHTSA campaign id number: 08V091000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections) and contacted the manufacturer to see if that recall affected her model vehicle as well and was informed that it did not. Later she was informed of NHTSA campaign id number: 12V222000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections) and contacted the manufacturer and was informed that her VIN was included and accepted a complaint. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 169,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering pressure hose and the inlet hose were leaking. As a result, the power steering fluid, suction tube, O-ring and both hoses needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who advised the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign id number: 12V222000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections) and offered to reimburse the contact for the hose that was included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 81,309 and the current mileage was 85,000.

Hard to steer at low speed. At idle, can not turn wheel very well unless you put in neutral and increase the RPM. Power steering pump used to squeal and dealer replaced some seals on power steering system. Honda repair shop said " many Honda cars steer hard" if I need to turn wheel at low speed to get out of way of danger, forget it!

I have a 2005 Honda Accord V6 ex. It has the same exact problem described in the following Honda Odyssey tsb. The problem happens at low engine speed and presents an unsafe situation for my daughter who drives the car. When turning wheel, quickly, while driving at low speeds, it is hard. Especially while driving in parking lots. There is not enough assist from the power steering pump. Steering pump needs to be replace. Updated 7/29/11.

In 2005 Accord, parked with steering column turned. Steering column was frozen. Unable to turn key to restart car. Turning steering wheel did not help. Wrecker, putting pressure on tires to load Accord, released steering column, and key turned, car started. Very dangerous. Will leave families stranded. Honda service says there are no repairs they can perform. Learned the new cars have this problem too. Solution: Make it so the tires have to be straight ahead before the car can be turned off. Solution: Fix the steering column problem.

: the contact stated while traveling 35 mph on dry flat road conditions, the vehicle's steering locked up and spun out of control into the median. The vehicle spun counter clock wise 360 degrees and had extensive damage to the hood, left front fender, tire, and headlight. There was no warning prior to the failure. The incident occurred under normal driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealers body shop for repairs.
