Accord EXL 2.4 4cycl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

I bought this honda accord exl last year 2009. It was a used car. One week later, the battery was dead. I replace the battery, thinking to myself maybe its time to change, but 7 months later, the same thing happened again. Battery died again, I have to jump car to get home. This time I know it's definitely something wrong with the electrical system. I have not taken my car to the shop to figure out what was wrong yet.

2006 HONDA ACCORD. BATTERY CONTINUES TO DIE FROM A CONSTANT VOLTAGE DRAW. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR OVER 3 YEARS & DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT YET

MY COMPLAINT IS SIMILIAR TO MANY OTHERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND HAS BEEN A COMPLAINT ON OTHER YEAR MODELS AS WELL FROM 2003 TO PRESENT. THE SIOUX FALLS DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T FIND IT BUT I CAN TELL THEM EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THEIR SOLUTION IS THAT I SHOULD TRADE MY CAR IN FOR A NEW ONE AND RID MYSELF OF THIS PROBLEM! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS:

THE BATTERY DROPS FROM 14.1V TO 8.1 V Overnight. Test light from disconnected NEG. battery cable to NEG battery terminal is bright which proves that there is a constant draw on the battery. The draw is coming from the Backup Accessories because when I pull just that fuse, the draw and voltage drop stops. I have had to carry a power pack in my trunk for 3 yrs. to jump start car approx. 200+ times since I bought it new. I went to the dealer numerous times and they will not acknowledge that there is a problem yet there are many complaints exactly like mine posted on the internet from all over the country. How can I fix this problem when Dealer and Honda will not even acknowledge that there is a problem and I can show them the voltage draw with a test light and voltage drop with a volt meter!? The voltage drops about .5 volts in 4 minutes!

I have the dash display package with GPS, Radio, Heat, and A/C. From what I read on

the internet from similiar complaints, the problem is with the radio draining the battery.

Unfortunately I can tell the dealer what the problem is, but how can you get it fixed when the dealer (and apparently Honda Corp) does not want to acknowledge that there is a huge electrical problem with radio voltage draw that dramatically drains the battery overnight?? I am truly amazed that Honda was voted Car of The Year for several years in a row with problems like this. I will be trading this lemon in for a new vehicle soon, but it sure won't be for another Honda or from this dealer. Anyone out there have a solution to this problem other than trading it off? Thanks JT
