The vehicle was taken to an Acura dealer who stated that the smoke was caused by a failure of the high pressure steering hose which was included on a safety recall by the same manufacturer for two separate Acura models with the same engine and high pressure power steering hose as the one in the Honda Accord. However, there was no recall for the failed part on the Honda model. The replacement hose and installation would cost $400. The manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed. The manufacturer offered no other assistance. The vehicle was repaired by the Acura dealer at the vehicle's owners expense of $438.80.
