The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact opened the trunk and the door latch exploded causing the metal springs and cables to shoot out into the air. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
