Vsa light came on while driving. Pulled over to the curb and turned off the engine and consulted the owner's manual. Restarted the engine and had a great deal of difficulty getting the transmission out of park. Had the car serviced the following day.

This was the second time my car accelerated for no reasons while I was driving. The first time I was only driving 35 miles an hour and no one was in front of me. The second time the car accelerated as I was stopping at a red light. I barely missed a car by one foot. Both times I went to the Honda dealership in sanford. Long story short...no one knows how to fix it. I am extremely upset over the idea that there are all car owners with these electronic systems that don't work. The second time my three year grandson was in the back seat. The dealership said the electronic system sent a message that designated that there was an acceleration or malfunction. Anyway I am sending this because I wanted my car fixed and because it is a paper trail if someone gets killed in this car. I will no longer own a Honda. This was my second Honda and until this I was very satisfied. I now have a car paid for that I cannot drive. I do want the public to be aware of this problem. [xxx] I don't have the VIN number. My car is parted outside the dealership in sanford, N.C. waiting for me to pick it back up. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

My vehicle was in park. When I tried to put it in drive, it would not move. I inserted a key beside the gear shift to release the gear shift. My vsa light, along with the ! warning light came on. When I looked in my car manual, it instructed me to take it to the Honda dealership immediately. I took it to the Honda dealership and they called american Honda but could not figure out what was wrong with the car. The gear shift now locks at least once a day and is getting harder to release. It also makes a clicking noise. I went back to the Honda dealership and waited 3 1/2 hours for them correct the problem. They again called american Honda and their only recommendation is for me to pay $1200 to buy a new part. The Honda dealership charged me $200 for their time. I was sent away with no repair to my car. I called american Honda and explained that I am worried about my safety. The vsa light along with the ! warning light says in the manual "vsa systemmalfunction. Vehicle has normal driving ability, but does not have vsa traction and stability enhancement; see dealer as soon as possible". I have went through 3 sets of tires this year and I think it is because of this issue. Honda has already recalled the vsa in the 2005 Honda Pilot. In their recall statement, "during a vsa system malfunction, the amount of brake force applied could exceed the driver's intended input. Unexpected brake activation could increase the risk of a crash." I am very disappointed that Honda is not concerned about my personal safety even though they know their is an issue with their vsa system. I am very concerned about my safety and the safety of the passengers that ride in my car.

While traveling at high rate of speed on an interstate my vehicle struck a patch of black ice. The car's vehicle stability assist engaged, but I was unable to gain control, the vehicle spun repeatedly and left the roadway, striking a culvert and causing the side and side curtain airbags to deploy. I found out a week after getting my car back from repairs that the rear brakes were completely worn down to metal on metal with no prior warning and after only approximately 22,000 miles. I believe that this caused a significant safety issue and contributed to my accident. When the vehicle stability assist and brake assist function was engaged, I believe the worn state of the rear brakes as opposed to the almost new condition of the front brakes caused the back end of my car to swing around and spin out of control. This is a documented problem with the 2008 Accord (on the internet), but amercian Honda has yet to even admit that there is a problem. I am lucky that I was not severely injured or killed in that high speed crash. Fortunately, the Honda engineers that designed the airbags put more thought into their design than the engineers that designed a rear braking system that wears down after 20,000 miles. I currently have about 57,000 miles on my Accord and have now replaced the rear brake pads and rotors twice.
