Figured it was worth adding to the others. I had squeaking at 15K, mechanic said the brakes were brand new. Grinding at 25K led to new rear brakes and turned rotors. He missed them the first time. Unbelievable.

  • 21,800 miles

Had the same problem as everyone else @ 21800 miles. Opened a case with American Honda and got it resolved the same day. Inside rear right pad was virtually gone. Noticed it while rotating tires. American Honda stated a "Third Party" was examining the records to see if a recall was in order. New pads installed on the rear. They don't turn the rotor since it's thinner than the front rotor (unless it's badly scored). American Honda picked up the entire $200 cost.

Accord EX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,002 miles

The rear brakes were replaced at 15,000 miles at a cost of $86.55 after getting Honda to pay for most of the repair. When the brakes were repaired I could not get after market pads - they were not available.

In February 2010 I had the car inspected and it passed. Two weeks later I had the tires rotated and told them to check the brakes and the rear brakes were down to the sensors. They wanted over $200 to do the brakes and I told them I would do the brakes myself. I bought at auto zone the duralast pads and put them on. I went on the internet and found all the complaints about the 2008 rear brakes and called the dealer up and they told me to bring the car in and they would replace the rear pads and also cut the rotors on the front and replace the front pads. I paid $65.00 for the rear pads and they gave them back to me . When they inspected the car they should of replaced the rear pads and I would not of gone through this trouble. I called Honda America and asked for a refund of the $86.55 I paid for the pads at 15,000 miles and they will not reimburse me for that. I have a better business bureau complaint in for the 86.55 and it looks like they are not going to do anything. I would like who ever reads my complaint and has a rear brake issue and has paid for the brakes to file a complaint with the BBB in southern Calif. were Honda America is located you can do this online at the BBB and it will only take about 10 minutes.

Canada has a customer satisfaction campaign on for the rear brakes but Honda America does not. Honda America will replace your brakes on the 2008 and 2009 accord for three years and either 36,000 miles or I heard unlimited mileage but three years. This is kind of under the table but if you complain they will do it, they try to keep it quiet.

Well I did the research to try to buy a reliable car, but I guess Honda has decided that customer service isn't what they are about now. I will have to eat all the brake repairs, but I won't own another honda.

Accord EX-L Coupe 2.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 49,000 miles

Found out about your site from a co-worker and decided to read about people's gripes on the 2008 Accord. This is my 4th Honda product. 1988 Accord Coupe and 2006 Accord Sedan were unbelievable vehicles. No problems whatsoever. Had a 2006 Acura MDX that needed a new tranny after only 2000 miles (fluid leaked all over driveway) and finally my 2008 Accord Coupe. Read all the gripes on the cars brake issues and thought I was one of the lucky ones. Brought it in to my local mechanic to get an inspection, oil change, and put on new tires last week. To my surprise, the manager came up to me and told me that I would not pass inspection, needed new rear brake pads and my rotors were shot. I couldn't even resurface them, I needed new ones. Oh well, at least they lasted more than 49,000 mile. Feel sorry for everyone else who needed them earlier. Can only guess that I do A LOT of highway miles and downshift often to slow down when braking is not totally needed. The fact that it was the rear brakes before I needed my front ones done is my main concern. I cannot believe Honda is not owning up to this. I have two other problems with this vehicle that I found on the site as well (headlights flicker often while driving at night and grinding of my gears when shifting into third). It really is a good looking car but the quality is definitely in question

The rear brakes started squeaking on my car. Its a surprise to me because i just bought it last April 2009 with Honda warranty. Its the rear brake. I was just Googling to see about how much it would cost me and now i see all these other owners with the same problem around the same mileage. Sad.

This is my 4th Honda, and if the company doesn't fix the problem, I will not buy another one. I never had this problem with my other Honda's.. The service guy told me that the newer Honda's use the back brakes first, personally I think he is full of it. I had to put this repair on my credit card, which maxed it out. I am not happy about this. I think I will also write to GMA, but, also to Honda.

Accord EXL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,493 miles

When I first heard of this - I just had the car for less than a year at 13,000 miles and the guy at the shop told me that he suspected something was wrong because my back brakes were prematurely wearing, and then today 1/27/10 I went in for an oil change and they checked my brakes? Did not ask them to and they said I needed more brakes again. So I would have to pay $206.00 - he stated that the brakes are wearing sooner than normal because they have made on these models the brake pads on the rear smaller. I told him why did they not disclose this to me when I purchased the car? He told me that my brakes were almost metal to metal and I asked him why is there not a sensor on this problem, I would have brought in sooner, but he issue is that every couple of months I am required, without notice, to have new brakes put on, he told me that the new 2008 models and other models they have done this. This is very dangerous with no warning your brakes are going out. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

okay...so i have read most of these comments and i get even more annoyed by the honda corp. I bought a spanking brand new 08 honda accord for the new family.. i take care of my cars and was real confident i was taking care of my new car. My wife came home one day concerned the car was making a real loud noise coming from the wheels. I took it to the dealership and was told the brakes were shot and needed new ones.. (rear) ..

i only had 12000-13000 miles on it..after a year and a half after i purchased the car. they told me they were not going to cover it and fell under wear and tear. I was really upset and told them there is no way it wasnt a recall yet. They did admit they were aware of the situation and the only reason they did it for free was because they had never seen it at such low miles.

i was surprised the brakes were gone. i have a 2006 f 150 as well with a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires, 40000 miles and changed my pads only once... honda should make it a recall asap.... to anyone having this issue complain and dnt take no for an answer...

Brought in accord for routine service and inspection. Rear brake pads were down to 2, and had to be replaced, about 200 buck. Wish I had looked at this site beforehand, and realized that this was a known problem, would have raised a gripe. I drive 70 miles per day on a flat highway with minimal traffic, no reason for the brakes to wear out that quickly.

Purchased 2008 Accord with 14,000 mi and 3 wks later had to return to dealer (after their 81 point 'used vehicle inspection') for rotor replacement!!!!!! 14,000 miles?? what the heck!!? Better not be an omen of things to come with this vehicle! Also last week, stopped normally at a red light and brake pulled me into oncoming traffic lane. Had the car tested by mechanic and the service mgr and they could not re-create. Very worrisome.

brakes started making noise on 1/31 and brought the car in on 2/2. Told rear pads low and rotor needs resurfacing. Had work done as I am a woman with no training in auto repairs.

Found this site today 2/23 and I just cannot believe that Honda is aware of this problem and doing nothing. I guess they would like to keep company with Toyota who seems to slowly wake up and acknowledge that they have a problem. This is our family's 4th Honda and I am truly disappointed with this one. The old ones have given us great service.

I bought a Honda Accord 2008 on April 2008 thats 22 months old.

I already changed by Rear brakes at 17000 miles as there was annoying squeaky noise and I was not happy about the premature brake failure. Now I went for a 30000 mile check up and they are asking me to change the rear brakes thats absurd. its less than 12500 miles on the car and the brakes need to be changed.

I wish I knew a lawyer who can sue them for such bad parts and front brake pads have not been changed yet. something tells me that honda need to get their act right its obvious they messed up with their brake system.

Accord LX 4 cyl

I bought this car new, after loving 2 prior Honda's. Imagine my shock on a late afternoon shortly before Christmas while waiting for an oil change when the mechanic said i needed new brakes. I had been dozing and I thought I was having a nightmare (and driving my old Fiat) I brought it in a week later and complained enough that the repair was free. But really, new brake pads at 19000 miles when I commute 60 highway miles per day? Ridiculous. So you can imagine how happy I was the following summer (and I'll write a second complaint) when at 35000 miles (or 16000 miles later) I needed ANOTHER set of pads. This time I paid a portion of the repair. And now Honda's sitting back fat, dumb and happy and laughing at Toyota's troubles. I'll buy a Camry even now if the price is good enough. At least they are trying to fix it.

I have owned this car for 2 years and 3 months, have 41,000 miles on it and have replaced two sets of rear brake pads. I use the car to commute 60 highway miles each day. I will give my dealership credit for changing their story. The first time it happened they tried to blame it on my driving, but the second time they acknowledged that they are seeing this a lot and recommended that I complain on-line. The last time I was in for service, the service writer said that they are quietly shipping a new part number for these pads. So sometime within the next 10,000 miles, when I'm sure my brakes will fail again, I expect I'll get new pads and MAYBE this will be fixed

Apparently Honda used cheaper material in their rear brakes so that the front and rear brakes would wear at the same time... Yea good job HONDA, now we get to pay 3 times more for rear brake pads when they wear after 20-30,000 miles. I didn't take it to the dealership because they want to charge 200-300 dollars, it's much cheaper to do it yourself.

I bought my 2008 Honda Accord Brand New in Dec 2008. I have had both front and rear rotors turned 2x each and my rear rotors replaced. I have also had my rear pads replaced all within 14months of ownership. When I apply my brakes the steering wheel shakes violently. The Honda service manager says my driving habits are the problem.

I told him I have been buying my vehicles brand new since 1987 and have never had to have my brakes serviced within 24 to 36 months. This Honda has been serviced 4+ within 4 months for the same problem. Still fighting this battle
