My rear brakes failed prematurely - metal against metal - at 29,000 miles. The Honda dealer in Anaheim, CA replaced the pads with the revised pad set 43022-TA0-A70 under warranty, read no charge. I should have noticed this problem sooner, but the last thing I expected was for the rear brakes to wear out with lots of life on the fronts.

For 17 years, from 1991 to 2007 the Accord and other Honda/Acura products used the same rear brakes with minimal problems. Can I "upgrade" my 2008 Accord to the old rear brake calipers? Lots of parts are readily available and they work. Can't be said of the new design.

I went for my regular oil change service for my accord 08 and in their sanity check they mentioned me that rear brakes of the car are worned out to 50% and may last 6000 more miles and than you need to replace it...i had not even drove 24K milesup on it yet and facing this problem.......I heard this problem from few of my colleagues who has the same model....I guess honda should think of it seriously as its matter of brakes after all

I bought my Accord in August 2007. This was my first honda and i was really excited until 15,000 miles into I had to replace my brakes. I was told that it was normal wear and tear. It being my first car i believed them. another 15k into it at 30k miles i had to replace my brakes again. This is ridiculous. WHen will they admit that it is a design flaw!!! will not be buying ahonda again.

This is the 4th time I have had to replace the rear brake pads on this car. Like clockwork every 15,000 miles I need new pads. Every other car I have ever driven the front brakes wear first, and never have I had to replace them more often then 45,000. miles. I have complained to Honda corporate and their response was we are aware of the situation. I complained to my dealer service manager with basically the same response. They are happy as pigs in pie because this just means more money for their service dept.

I posted on #57 and I am back again. At 30000miles I had to replace my back brakes. And this time now I am around 60000miles and guess what started to squeak again?!?! Because my car is my life I really have no choice to fart around with recalls and stuff and had to get it fixed. The repair costed me around $700-800 this time in which I have a feeling all these people having this problem will run into around 60000miles Not only did the back brakes wore again but now it is time the front brakes as well. Which is the right time for front brakes the wear out. So the routers on the front worn soo thin, that I needed to replace the routers in the front and front brakes and routers in the back along with the back brakes. So those people with problems with back brake wear be ready for round 2 but with your front brakes being replaced as well. Find good mechanic and thats a friend of yours that can do the brakes because the dealership will just rape you and obviously will not cover the repair because brakes and routers are consider wear and tear, which is not covered under your warranty.

Accord EX V6

I noticed a problem with my braking system on my 2008 Honda Accord when I took it in for my 2nd oil change. I was told the brakes were fine. I then came back after hitting 22,000 miles and was told my rear brakes were almost gone. I then proceeded to ask the service person how could the rear brakes be worn before the front brakes? He proceeded to explain how it depends on my driving and that I may be a person who is hard on brakes. I think I have replaced my brakes on my 2001 Altima which has 135,000 two times. The service person then told me it would be $230.00 to have them replaced. I googled Honda Accord brake problems and found this website. After reading the complaints and realizing that I was not the only one with that problem I called the service department and advised them of the numerous complaints I have read about and I did not feel I should have to pay for the brakes to be replaced. The service person then went on to explain that Honda only had a warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles and he could not assist me since I have 22,000 miles. He did state that he would speak with the service manager and give me a call back. I was surprised when he did call me back the next morning after speaking with his manager and they agreed to go 1/2 on the charge. I do agree that Honda is aware of this problem and needs to address this issue. It makes my angry that I if I had not researched this problem I would have just paid to have it fixed. Honda is going to end of losing a lot of customers due to this issue.

Brought this Honda brand new had to wait on it to come in. New car for my wife and she was thrilled to have a NEW HONDA. Great car the salesman stated. Drove the car on several long trips and it drove good. Then started to hear a squeaking noise in the back of the car. Carried to local dealer where we brought the car and was told that their is nothing wrong with the car. Did this several times until finally the assholes advised us that the back brakes were shot. Front brakes were find. Also stated that my wife might have been driving the car with the emergency brake on. Guess they thought that she was a moron. Car had 35000 miles and this was our problem. So I paid to have the brakes replaced.

Now the car has 64000 miles and the brakes have to be replaced on the back again. This time cost me $275.00 since the rotors had to be turned. Called American Honda and was told WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO ABOUT IT. Stated that the brakes do not last forever. I explained to case manager (asshole) that I drive a 06 Chevy pickup with 64000 miles and have yet to replace the brakes on it and pull a trailer with it. This pricks reply was "your Chevy is giving you good service."

Finally first and last Honda. Hoping to find someone to buy this piece of chit.

I would never expect that my Honda accord rear brake worn out at 21,000 miles (16 months since I purchased the car). When I heard the squeaky noise from the rear of my Accord, I took the car to the dealer for checking up the rear break noise. Honda service guy told me my car rear break is needed to be replaced. It would cost me $120 for them to check my break if I didn't replace the break at the dealer. The total break job was costing me $360. Damn, it hurts !

I have driven many cars (Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Ford) with an average break expectancy around 35 - 40K miles. Come on HONDA ! you can do it better.

OK here is the situation re: brakes from me, someone with a mechanic background. I took my car in. Here is what honda is doing.

IF the rear rotors are salvageable, ie metal on metal but still thick enough to be machined, they do that at customer expense. My dealer its 114$ for both, it costs 8-10$ at auto zone, but whatever. The pads and labor are FREE.

IF the rear rotors are NOT salvageable, ie metal on metal but too thin to be machined, then they replace the rotors, pads, labor, and PUT A SPRING between the ROTOR and PAD so the pad is pushed away from the rotor when the brakes are not on.

That is the official Honda Status. That is why you read they did it for half, they charged 75$, all that nonsense is wrong. They are charging you to machine the salvageable rotors.

Honda is aware of the problem. They are fixing it and the spring is standard on the 2010 models. My guess is before long these cars will be recalled to have this done, and before any new ones are sold the spring will be put in. That is my hunch. THey are very aware of the problem, aware of a pending class action lawsuit or suits, and they want to make it right. If your dealer does not address it, call Honda and complain, and BE SURE TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. Dont just take the service writers word. They may not know or care.

I was amazed at how easy it was. I read all this, and went in all ready to do battle and it was "here is what we do" as I explained above. So, now you can go in knowing the situation, and do not settle for less. I wouldn't pay 114$ to turn the rotors either. I asked what new ones cost and he said about 250. I would ask them how much rotors are at cost? Then you have new rotors. The issue is this: Once you turn them, then you do your brakes again, they are not turnable or less likely to be. So then you have to buy new ones. So try and get them at cost while you can. If you have them turn them and your car is low mileage (30K or less), you will have to buy rotors at some point if you keep the car.

Remember, INFO is power, so go in with this and other info you research and get your car fixed. It should be free or very close to free. Good luck.

don't buy japanese cars anymore. just buy hyundai or a ford. japanese cars now need as much maintenance/repair costs as german cars. bought an accord for reliability and relatively cheaper maintenance costs, but this is what happens. the dealer told me this is because of the material this car is made of so they can't do anything about this issue. terrible. replacing your rear brakes every 25k makes no sense whatsoever.

I've had several Hondas; I like them b/c they are so reliable and so low maintenance, so I didn't really believe the story the mechanic gave me that I should get new rear brakes and Honda would pay half. Seemed fishy. I figured if there was a problem Honda would have sent a notice and covered the cost. MAYBE HONDA NEEDS TO TALK TO TOYOTA!

Accord EX V6

I took my 2008 Honda Accord to the dealer for routine 15,000 mile checkup, and oil change. Much to my surprise, the mechanic said the rear brakes were down to the sensor! I'd had the car less than a year! He admitted that it was happening on a lot of 2008 Accords. I called Honda, and they refused to admit to any wrongdoing, but offered to pay for half the brake job. (???) Some was covered under extended warranty, and Honda paid for some, so it cost me about 75 bucks. Now I have 20,000 on the car and the other day I heard squeaking when I was backing down the driveway!! i BET THE DAMN BRAKES ARE OUT ALREADY, 5000 MILES LATER. THIS IS A HUGE DRAG, AND HONDA BETTER MAN UP AND ADMIT THERE IS A FLAW ION THE DESIGN!!
