Accord LX 3.2L

  • 15,039 miles

At 15,039 my one year old 2008 Honda Accord needed new rear brakes. On my second service for my car the service techs told me that I needed to install new rear brakes. I was told that the front brakes were fine but the rear was really bad. I was so disgusted. What made it worse was that when I asked if this was a common thing, they said that yes it was. I also asked if there were any complaints regarding this and they hesitated and did not quite give me an answer. With this problem getting worse day by day Honda should recall these cars and fix this problem. They are dealing with loyal Honda buyers and if they do not do anything I can see these same people buying Toyota's or Nissan's! I also filed my complaint with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.)

I am leasing Honda Accord 2008. After only having the car for a month, the brakes started to squeak. I brought the car back to the dealership only to be told that my the brakes are fine.... hmmmm. Fast forward 1 year and 16000 squeaky miles... I brought my car in for the 15K maintenance and to have them check the brakes AGAIN. And imagine my surprise when they told me that my rear brake pads were worn and I had to have them replaced!!! AT 16000 miles!!!!!!!!!! They told me that the 2008 accord brake pads are thin and wear quickly. This apparently is an ongoing problem. I owned a honda civic for 8 years 100K plus miles and never had a problem other than the typical wear and tear. I am extremely disatisfied with my 2008 accord and am looking forward to my lease being up. Looking online I have found that many people have had the same problem with their 2008 accord... There is no reason that I should have to had pay for the new brake pads considering the defect in THEIR manufacture. I am super pissed and will be writing a letter to them through my attorney.. maybe if they have enough complaints something will be done about this. If not, I dont think I will buy or lease another honda.

Accord LX V4

  • 21,818 miles

I went in for an oil change and tire rotation at 21,818 miles and come to find out my REAR Brakes only have 2MM left and I need to replace them. I brought the car 05/08 so to hear that my REAR of all brakes are gone makes me mad.

I did call American Honda Customer service only to hear that it's normal wear and tear and that they switch from drum brakes to disk. Also my driving habits is being questioned. From the inspection sheet my front brakes had 8MM left. I can't believe I am in this type of situation with HONDA of all makes. If they don't handle this problem the only real thing I can do is NOT TO BUY A HONDA going forward.

I contacted Honda numerous times as I was shocked that I would have to replace with barely 20,000 miles on it. I have been a loyal Honda owner and neither my 2000 Accord or 2002 Civic ever experienced anything near this wear. I was also told at my dealer that this "premature wear" was due to the superior new brakes - and the fact that the pads may be inferior to pads on the older vehicles. I eventually filed an official case with Honda Corporate National HQ on 1/6. I did not get an official response until 1/22. When I called back my contact he was out sick and did not return the call until 1/29. Needless to say - nothing was done other than to apologize for the inconvenience. This is a big problem and Honda needs to address this !!

ATTENTION ALL DC/MD/VA 2008 HONDA ACCORD OWNERS WITH PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR.

As time goes on it is now 2009 and Honda STILL has not owned up to having a faulty brake system on the 2008 Honda Accords. There is now over 400 complaints on this site and everyone is getting the same run around and nothing is being done to resolve this issue.

This is a very serious issue and it is time for Honda to wake up and smell the coffee.

I am posting a Call for Action on the radio station WTOP, that way we can spread the word beyond carcomplaints.com and hopefully get Honda American Corporations ear on this issue with the 2008 Honda Accords and have them do a recall or at least some type of compensation.

Go to www.wtop.com to do a call for action complaint. Of course according to Honda Corporation "The more complaints, the better". Obviously they are not getting enough is what I have been told. I am sure they are getting more complaints than the individuals just on this website alone.

Let us all come together and take some type of action on spreading the word of this issue. I am not sure how the 2009 Honda Accords are but if they are the same I feel sorry for the people buying them and I sure wish I would have known this issue before buying my 2008 Honda.

If you have any questions or advice please feel free to email me on here.

Thank you, Autumn D.

Same problems here, I had to replace my rear brakes at 23k miles, but instead of going to Honda, I got my pads at the Auto Part, if the problem is with the type of pads Honda uses then I decided to use good after market pads, I am not sure if this will fix the problem but common sense tells me the Honda pads are bad quality so by using a better quality pads it should solve the problem. Let me know if I am right or not.

Would not recommend this vehicle to a friend. Dealers excuse is the brakes are better and more powerful, therefore will wear quicker. BS! Rear brakes wore down to sensor at 17950 mi. I don't drive it like my old Prelude, nor sit in stop and go traffic. NO excuse for this premature wear other than defect. For the dealer to claim the brakes are an improvement is bogus. Cannot believe they will try and tell me the brakes have improved. Love Honda, but this issue will definitely make me think twice about purchasing another new Honda.

My 2008 Honda Accord had intermittently metal-on-metal scratching noise for 2 weeks before I brought it in to a dealer here in MN. When I described the problem, the service adviser immediately guessed it's a '08 Accord because they have seen a number of problems like that. With 29K miles, they said it would not be covered under warranty. But, when I went to pick up the car the next day, they said they had talked to Honda about the uneven wear of my rear brakes and Honda agreed to pay for the repair! The outer pad had 4mm left and the inner had 0mm left! Chalk one up for the good guys!

They win. I've owned Honda's since 1981. I will bad mouth them, at every opportunity I get and NEVER buy their product again. Brakes gone at 19k.

This was the way of the American auto industry- deny a recall-. We see how well that worked out for them.

I was told by my Honda Dealer Carr's Honda Chicago that the back brakes needed to be replaced and would cost $295.00 but would give me a $25.00 discount too funny!! I only have 16,000 miles on my car the reason I bought a new car was to avoid high maintenance costs, and my CD player needs to be replaced too, but that's under warranty!

think it's crazy since I had a Honda Civic 1998 with 180,000 miles and only replaced the back brakes 3 times! I'm extremely disappointed with Honda and will never buy a Honda car again.

Honda needs to recall the brake problems and keep there customers!

Accord LE 4 cyl V-Tech

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,275 miles

I have loved driving my 2008 Accord LE. Bought it brand new in March 2008. It looks great, drives great and the V-Tech 4 Cylinder delivers the power you need while getting every bit of the 31 MPG as promised. However; like everyone else, I was shocked to hear that my rear brakes needed replacing at 27K miles. I have previously owned two other Honda automobiles and have loved them because they are so maintenance free. I was told I have no option but to replace the rear pads at my cost and hope for a recall that will eventually reimburse me (maybe). I am extremely disappointed that the Honda Corporation has not addressed this issue yet. Fool me once. Shame on me. Fool me twice. Not gonna happen. Honda will not get a second chance to fool me again.

When I got my car for the first couple of months I had no problems, with the brakes, then coming home one night I heard a noise coming from the back of the car. The next day I asked the service tech, that I work with what could be a problem, and I was told its a problem with the rear brakes, and that Honda is aware of the problem and they are working on the problem. That was five months ago and the noise is getting worse. Other co-workers and I have the same problem, and they were charged for the fix, if Honda is aware of this problem why in the hell would they have to pay.I work for a local Honda store, and I have spoken to all service personal and the Service Rep. for Honda and all I get is I have to look into it. To date there has not been anything done to resolve this.

Update from Nov 23, 2009: I was so pissed off with Honda, that I traded the car in for a new car not Honda

Accord LE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 23,000 miles

Same as everyone else 2008 Honda Accord, noticed noise at 20K miles, called dealership and was told this was a known problem that Honda as yet had no fix for. Also told there was no hurry to bring the car in. I called for an appointment a few weeks later, and was told it was probably brakes and I should come in right away. Rear brakes worn at 20K miles. I used to be in the repair business and rear brakes should never wear before the fronts and certainly not at 20K miles. The dealership 1st tried to clip me for $300 but after I said I would use my own mechanic, they lowered the price to $118. This is the 1st Honda I have ever owned after years of driving Toyota. I understand there are issues at times with cars, however, a company is defined by how it handles problems. It is obvious that Honda has a design issue with the 2008 Accord, if they do not address this with a recall and reimbursement, a web page should be designed, easily done with Yahoo. Also, if Honda does not do the right thing, a class action suit should be initiated.
