Barely a year old and had to replace the rear breaks. Same issue as all the complaints here. The dealer's excuse to not cover under warranty was that the car had not been serviced there for break inspections so apparently it is my fault for them wearing out. (this was the first time, now in need of repair again!!!)

Not even two years old and having to replace the rear brakes for the second time!!! Again, the rear inner pads have worn down to nothing and this time the "sensor" didn't even squeak. I noticed some vibration and had the mechanic at my work check them out (suspecting there was an issue with the last tire rotation or balancing) never expecting to find out it was my brakes - AGAIN. I am so over this! Has anyone found it useful to sign up with Girard Gibbs Litigation Complaints? or others?

After buying a Honda for its excellent service record, I am VERY disappointed in the new braking system. I had to replace the rear brake pads after 27,000 miles. Squeaking was awful! Because it was "normal wear and tear" it was not covered under warranty. Then at 32,000 miles my front rotors needed to be resurfaced. While this was covered under warranty, I was tol that it will happen again. Great, it will happen again when the car is out of warrenty--the repair is $500! I've owned sevearl cars over the past years and have never replaced brake pads before 75,000 miles. I don't recall having warped rotors--and I've had cars with up to 250,000 miles. I do mostly highway driving. My mechanics have frequently remarked how easy I am on the brakes. I registered a complaint with Honda and kept getting the same answer: Wear and tear is not covered. They acted as if the problem was no big deal. So, unless Honda steps up and recalls the cars, I will never own a Honda again--and I'll tell everyone I know NOT to buy Honda.

After hearing this awful screeching noise on my Honda Accord for a few weeks, I took it in only to my surprise, they said that my break pads had been worn completely down. I absolutely could not believe this was the case!! This is the second Honda that I have had, and with my first Honda the breaks were never replaced and it had 101,000 miles on it when I traded it in for this 2008. After complaining to my local Honda service station until I was blue in the face, I called American Honda to complain only to get the same spiel. "Brake pads are under normal wear and tear and they are not covered under any warranty" IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR YOUR BRAKE PADS TO BE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AT 25,000 miles, I don't care what they say. Uggghhh how frustrating!! I cant believe their has yet to be a recall on this. I am now looking to trade my vehicle in because this is ridiculous. In my eyes Honda's great "brand" has been tarnished and I will never buy Honda again. I think this should be brought to the eyes of consumers by a news story by either television, or internet so that Honda consumers are aware that they will be replacing their Honda break pads about 4 times more than any other vehicle make!

This is my third Honda and at this point maybe my last. I took my car to get a routine oil change and asked the tech to check the brakes because they were making some noise. I was shocked when he told me that I needed to have the rear brake pads replaced ASAP. I took it to the dealership only to be told that as of TODAY (convenient) that they lowered the mileage that they were willing to pay 50/50 on the repair from 30,000 to 20,000 and of course I have 23,000 miles on my car. I called Honda and made an official complaint....what good that will do. They say that there is nothing that they can do but note my concern. With all the complaints why is there not a recall and I am so irritated with the dealership for not being willing to back their car!!! My other accord has 170,000 miles on it and I know I have replaced the brake pads but I dont think I have but maybe 2 or 3 times total. You spend so much on the Honda name and quality....I thought...but when there is a problem they will not stand behind it!!!

Accord V6

At around 18K miles (give or take), I heard squeaking in the rear wheels, not necessarily when braking, more like all the time. Seemed weird (is there a rock or a screw caught in there?), but didn't even fathom that the car could need brake pads considering it was 12 months old with 18K miles; this is my third Honda in a row, ('04, '06 and now '08), and neither of my previous Hondas had even come close to needing brake pads after a driving time of 2 years and 30-40K miles. I figured I would have the wheel squeak checked out next time the Yellow Wrench came on. Right about the time the Yellow Wrench did come on, the squeaking became loud and scary (and shortly turned into a metal on metal grinding...uh oh), at which time I did some Google searching and found this site, which proved to my disbelief that the ever-dependable Honda which I've come to know and love really did build a 2008 Accord whose rear brakes wear out after 20K miles.

Since (1) my Honda Service Center (the Marina one in San Francisco, CA) throws me under the bus in general, even for the basic oil change service (somehow it costs $150 or so...they must have lawyers in there changing the oil), and (2) said Honda Service Center isn't a dealer, much less my dealer, and therefore has no incentive to help me out with premature brake wear problem, I chose to just fix the problem myself as cheaply as possible.

I ordered a pair of rear brake pads ($45 for both wheels), and had my dear old boyfriend pop them in for me. Unless you pre-negotiate a reimbursement from your service center, I would suggest you do the same, and just save your parts receipts for the recall that hopefully comes. It's actually quite easy (looking!) to change the pads.

My rotors did end up with some scoring on the inside from the metal on metal contact...meh.

NOTE: if you hear rear brake noise and give the rear brakes the old "eyeball" from the OUTside, you may notice that they still have 6mm of pad left, which will really throw you off. It's only after you pull the wheels off that you'll see the inside pads are dangerously low or even bare metal. As brake pads should wear evenly inside/outside, the drastically uneven wear seems to substantiate several posters' claims that this is a parking brake design/adjustment related manufacturing flaw. So if you're looking to hop on the recall/class action bandwagon, you may want to photograph your brake pads when you change them, for evidence. I will try to post photos to this site when I get a chance.

Honda has a problem with the rear brakes. All road miles on my wife's car because we live in the country and she drives the interstate two hours per day. It not like we live in the city with stop and go traffic/ Dealer says that they are seeing a lot of Accords that are wearing out the rear brakes. Of course they had no compassion. Cost 180 to replace. My Toyota has 185K and never has been replaced. Time for the government and Honda to do a recall. If they don't then I will never buy another one.

Same as everyone else. Brake noise after only 20K miles, mostly highway. Brought it in, service rep said it's not covered by warranty, since it's "wear and tear" ($180 estimate). While fuming about it in the service lounge, I called up this site and found the huge number of identical complaints. Showed it to the somewhat beleaguered service manager, who agreed to fix it for free. I highly recommend everyone else do the same.

Rear brakes were making a scraping sound as if the pads were worn beyond the limit, though the car has only 30,000 miles, way premature for pads to wear out, especially only on the rear. The front pads are fine. The dealer acknowledged that many accords were having this premature rear brake pad wear, and that Honda was aware of it, but it was not something they were covering under warranty. Looks like this will cost me $195 every 30,000 miles. No excuse for pads to be wearing out so soon, especially when the brakes are not used hard. Honda should acknowledge they have a problem with these Accords and reimburse customers - or recognize that long-time customers will jump ship and buy from someone else in the future.

Accord EX-L V4

2008 Accord EX-L All the events occurred within 1 year and 9 months The first month I bought this car, I was hearing squeaking noises coming from the car every time I would lightly come to a complete stop or slow down in traffic. I then brought the car into Honda, and they told me, it was the "weather" and that the vehicle was fine and the noises were normal. I left and thought nothing of it. Fast a few months, and the problems were not only still there, but they were worse then before. The noises were even louder when I came to a complete stop and or slowed down in traffic. I went back into the dealership when my next oil change was due, and told them to CHECK OUT my breaks, because I was hearing squeaking noises every time I used my breaks. So, they did my oil change and "checked' my breaks and told me, they are OK. Perfect, NOTHING wrong with your car. Fast forward a few more months, this time the noises NOT only got worse and louder BUT it decides to make the squeaking while I am DRIVING! The turning belts, my friend tells me, because he is in the car while I am listening to my car squeal to death, are grinding together, making an almost, "spark like" noise. I shortly take back my vehicle to Honda AGAIN, I drove into their garage, and the noise was so loud, they FINALLY heard my problem after telling me it was "OK". They then tell me there, it was a break problem, and for them to fix the "death spark noises" I would have to pay around $275.00. Keep in mind, my car has only about 20,000 miles on it. My jaws drop immediately, as I felt like I was FORCED to pay them the money to fix my break problem. I made a complaint to Honda Customer Service, and after getting my car checked on AGAIN, after a few months, they finally give me my REFUND for the money I wasted on premature break problems which should have been covered by warranty. Even after I spent money on the "new" breaks, I STILL heard the squeaks!! So, I brought it in to a new Honda dealer and they told me it was the Emergency breaks holding on too tight to my breaks and eating up the breaks faster than normal. I was really excited to hear about that one..... Well, they "fixed" the problem, and a couple days later, the problem is STILL happening. I finally got fed up with my car, and I am NOT happy at all with my vehicle at all, I called my attorney and I am now building a lemon law case against Honda. I will be on the drawing boards now, wasting my time and energy on this case!! Not happy, and I convinced myself that I will NEVER buy an ACCORD ever again!! I am not that far either from never buying a HONDA!! Sorry for my little burst of frustrations....WILL ANYONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO FILE LEMON, OR IF ANYONE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, THANKS GUYS, AND HAVE A GOOD ONE =)

I see many other people complaining about this same issue. I bought my 2008 Honda Accord LX-P Feb of 2008... In September of 2009 at around 32,000 miles my brakes started to squeal and screech... I would like everyone to know that I am the type of driver who ABSOLUTELY BABY'S his car...I use engine braking just so I don't wear the brakes out ...so when I heard that it was squealing that was a huge surprise to me...I drive very carefully, I slow down long before I have to stop, I drive this car like a freakin grandma!!

I had to have it replaced because I didn't know if it would cause any damage or anything like that.. It was also embarrassing driving around in a new car that was fully detailed and looking fresh that was making that kind of horrific noise.... Very disappointed in this....It does, however, make me feel a little better that I am not the only who went through this crap and will continue to go through it as long as I have this car

A co-worker has issues with the brakes on her 08 Accord and told me to be weary as they were wearing out early. She showed me this and other websites were thousands were complaining of the same thing. At the time I wasn't experiencing any issues, so I saved the information and kept moving. Flash forward 3 months and now my rear brakes are squeaking. Luckily the guy at the dealership was nice to me unlike some of the others I've read about, but that still doesn't help that I'm currently replacing brakes on a car with less than 20K! I drive around with my 17 month old daughter in this car, the brakes need to WORK! I buy Honda because they're supposed to be reliable if you keep up with maintenance. This is my 4th Honda, but after seeing their lack of ownership on this brake deal, it will most definitely be my last. Unfortunately I can't afford to just trade it in for it to be someone else's problem, that's not fair. Honda needs to do something about this. Now is not the time to be lazy when your cars start at $20K!

I use to own a 2001 Ford Focus and never had a problem with premature brake wear. I heard a lot of hipe about how honda is supposed to be better than ford. I bought into the hipe and now I am a disgusted owner of a 2008 Honda Accord 4 cyl. I was so pissed off when I had to replace the rear brakes at 20,000 miles, 75% of them freeway, while my front brake pads still had a lot to go. So I'm hardly in stop and go traffic. I went back to the dealership where I bought the car and was told that it is not a problem covered under warrenty after 14,000 miles, and that i would have to pay to replace them. I eneded up buying new ceramic rear disc pads at an auto parts store for about 80 dollars, yet te front pads are 50 dollars. So my big issue is when is Honda gonna fix the **ing problem and why do i have to pay more for rear pads that are gonna only last half the life of the front pads. Dealers need to stop denying the problem and Honda needs to come up with a solution or there is gonna be a st load of litigation against them.

I think I have everyone beat - I had to change mine at 14K!! At first, I thought they were trying to pull a fast one - taking advantage of a young female. I asked to see them and sure enough, completely gone! I told them that was unacceptable and that the warranty should cover it. Brakes are a wear and tear part but not at 13k! I told them I wasn't going to pay for my 50 pt (or however many points it was) tuneup when they didn't do the job. Thankfully, I paid the money for the tuneup and they covered the brakes.

I'm sorry to hear that everyone has had such a tough time at the dealership because mine in Irving, TX was awesome. However, I'm at 25K and what to I hear... EEERKKKKKkkkkk at every stoplight. :(

Brake Pads wore out at 23000 which is an extremely short life for break pads. The dealer and Honda are aware of the problem but refuse to stand behind their product and make good on this. They would only say that they were looking into the issue. I have driven Honda cars for a number of years because of the quality so I am deeply disappointed in their response to this issue. I am regretting that I spoke so positively about this vehicle that my two brothers and a coworker purchased similar models. Honda needs to step up and make good on this if they value our business.

After having my Accord for roughly a year and a half, I noticed my brakes making a scraping sound. I thought it was the brake wear indicator (which it probably was) but it made itself known a little too late. I look at my rear left rotor and see the disc disconnected from the rotor, if you can imagine that. The brake pad even looked like it still had some time left on it. Either way, I made the appointment and took the car in. The mechanic told me he had never seen anything like this before and inspected both rear brakes. As I said before, the rear left rotor was broken and about an eighth of an inch thick. The right rotor needed to be replaced and was wearing thin, on the same path as the left. After all was said and done, $548, two new rotors and new rear brake pads. This is obviously a major defect which I feel Honda should be responsible for considering I did not abuse the car in any way. Has anyone seen or hear of anything like this on their Accord or any other car?

Three brake jobs and multiple insults from the dealer service manager regarding my driving habits was the final straw for me. After 24 months and 42,000 highway miles on this vehicle, three visits to the dealership attempting to fix worn breaks and pulsating rotors, and no resolution or willingness to admit the problem, I finally gave up and traded in the car for a Ford. The dealership advised me that I shouldn't be surprised to have to change the rear break pads every 18,000 miles. I have owned 12 cars in the past 25 years, and have never had a problem anything like this, so yes, I'm very surprised. Drop the act that you're surprised by my surprise, Mr. Dealer!! The front rotor warping is another serious problem that's not getting the attention it should. They turned my rotors 3 times, but the problem always came back quickly. The next owner of this vehicle will also soon need new rotors in addition to brakes. I work in the auto industry and whenever I hear someone contemplating a Honda purchase I point them to this website and explain exactly how infuriating this problem is to those of us driving 2008 Honda Accords. Thankfully it's no longer my problem. I will never buy another Honda product, and will continue to direct people toward this website with every opportunity. This was a two year nightmare for me!

I win!!! My Accord's brakes were shot at less than 15,000 miles. The service guy had the nerve to tell me that it's because of stop and go traffic. I reamed him: then he actually admitted that his car only needs brakes after 40,000. Came online and looked up the situation -- it is absolutely a design and materials flaw. That's HONDA's fault and they absolutely know about the problem. The sales guy who stopped by as I got out of my car quickly ran away as I told him why I was there. This company has a lot of work to do to make up for the lousy way they are treating their customers. As for me, I'm out. No more Honda's in my driveway.
