I was hearing a grinding sound coming from the back of the car as if something was dragging under the car while I was driving, not hitting brakes. I went to the dealership for my routine oil change and made them aware of the problem. When they came to give me the verdict, the tech said the rear brakes were 2 mm and needed replaced. He said that there has been many problems with the "08's" rears brakes, so clearly the dealerships know of this issue. I was totally frustrated, shocked, and appalled. I could not believe I had to replace brakes on a car that was only 1.5 years old. I previously owned three new cars and owned each of them more than 3 years and never had to replace brakes on any of them. As I paid for my oil change, the receptionist gave me the number to the Honda company b/c she said many customers are very disgruntled about this issue and are calling to complain. Please call the company if you have experienced this and complain. Maybe after we all bombard them will constant calls and correspondences, they will issue a recall and those of us who have paid will be reimbursed.

I previously owned lots of GM vehicles and when i got tired of unreliable money pits, I went to the Honda Dealership and purchased a 2003 Accord. Hands Down the best car I had ever owned. The car had 128000 miles on it and had never given me a problem with the rear brakes. (front brakes at 70000). So with this kind of reliability history, when my vehicle started climbing the mileage I purchased a 2008 accord. On Tuesday my rear brakes started screaming. I called the local dealership and they told me that they had heard of the brakes failing around 19000 miles before. I thought that the service manager was messing with me. He told me he could get me in the service department within the next few day's and the repair would cost me around $250. Obviously this is a known problem... I wonder when Honda will realize that they need to do something about it.

407...and counting with this many issues you can be sure Honda will not be willing to correct this. My suggestion write Honda and inform them you will chose a different car manufacturer. Took my local Honda dealer about 3 minutes to tell me my rear brakes need replaced. Service adviser even went a step further to explain Honda engineer had an issue with unusual rotor wear and the correction was a softer brake pad. I guess rotor problem has been solved easier to pawn off inferior brake pads to consumer. I love the we can put on Honda quality brake pads for $199 plus tax....that was my favorite!

When I started hearing grinding from the rear brakes another Honda owner told me about having the same problem and I then found this web site. I went armed with this information to my Honda Dealer in Atlanta on Peachtree Industrial Blvd. They could find no problem but cleaned off the brake dust and measured the pads at 5mm. 6 weeks later the noise and grinding was so bad I couldn't stand it. Having found this site and not being a glutton for punishment, I went to Midas and they showed me that not only were the pads completely worn out but that the rotors were also below specs. They noted that the calipers were sticking and they would clean them and it might temporarily fix any problems there but I would need to replace the bushings in the caliper if they start sticking again. Why doesn't Honda know this? It would help all those folks who go back to their dealership time and time again. It cost me $299 for pads and rotors but now I have a guaranteed set.

I was pushed out of Brickell Honda In Miami Fla. They told me they know of this premature break wear and said they would do nothing about it. He asked if I wanted to fix it and told him to go @#!$ himself and gave the money to my private mechanic. the pads are way to small for this big car. they pads were worn shot. at 19,800 Never in my life have I had to replace breaks so early. I will never buy a Honda again. The NTSB will do nothing because it is not a safety issue they say. People have to die first I guess to take notice.

Accord V6

It started a week ago with a squeaking sound coming from the rear of the car. Surely, this can't be the breaks! The car is just a little over a year old and only has 16,500 miles! Over the course of a week, this sound became worse and worse. It didn't happen only when breaking, but also the entire time I'm driving. It is definitely worse when going in reverse. When I took it to the dealer, they heard me driving in and told me I needed new rear brakes before they even looked at it. I questioned two different people about why the breaks had worn out so soon. They said this was normal and that it would be $150 to replace the brakes, so I paid. On our way out, another service tech told me that Honda was aware of a problem with 2008 Accord breaks and was looking into it, but that there was no solution as of yet. After I got home, I googled "2008 Honda accord rear brakes" and found this site with 400+ complaints (and growing). I'm going to call Honda now and lodge an official complaint.

I am SOOOOOOO sick of this f'in' car! Seriously! Yes... I have 70,000 miles on my 2008 Accord but I do drive a lot... And for those of you who know what Atlanta traffic is like, you would understand. That is still no reason to have had my BACK brakes replaced 3... Yes.... 3 times. And now I have to have them done again for the 4th time! The first 2 times I went to the dealer. I swore I would never go back again and I didn't. This last time I went to Just breaks. They did an inspection and guess what.... They were completely worn out AGAIN! But the amazing thing is... My front breaks looked brand new! I just don't understand. Just Breaks went on to tell me that it was going to cost me a good 200 to fix just the breaks and that the next time I come in to have them replaced... The rotors have to be replaced too. I'm not sure if this is correct or not but they also said that there is something wrong with the calipers. They aren't opening up enough and causing the breaks to scrub which is causing the premature break wear. I'm going this week sometime to have yet another person look at my car. All I know is Honda needs to do something about this problem. They created this "wonderful POS(which is what it should have been named!) " so now they should have to fix it. WORD of advice... If you plan on buying this car... DON"T! Or you'll be getting your BACK brakes fixed every 20,000 miles!

Started with noise and vibration. After the 8th time at the dealership, they replaced the rotors and breaks in the front after hours of complaining. A few days later the noise was back and even worse. Now it's the rear breaks. I took it to an independent shop and found uneven ware from inner and outer pads indicative of caliper issues. Called Honda Care and started that process. They would not warrent any thing that was not found "out of spec" from dealership.

Based on the other posts here, I plan on picking up some anal lube before I go back to the dealership. What happened to customer service and support of products? In this economy paying customers should be treated like gold! Now there is reports of fauly air bags spontaneously deploying!!! F&*C Honda Motors!!! Is this payback from Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

I was getting quite embarrassed to ride around town with this annoying sound coming from my car. I finally took it to the honda dealership on 8/24/09, and they told me my rear brake pads were worn, and the rear rotors were too. They said they had to send for the rotor, and would be there the next day. I asked couldn't they turn the rotor, but they said it wouldn't run right because too much wear already(grooved)? I called the Honda Corp. and they said that although they have heard complaints, this was a wear and tear issue. The local dealership said the same, even though they had heard complaints. This is ridiculous, and I feel this should have been covered by my 36000 mile warranty. Is there anything I can do? I will definitely not buy any more Honda vehicles( 4 already-3 from this company)

Rear brake pads are shot at 19,500 miles! Completely unacceptable and I'm getting rid of this car as soon as possible. If Honda can't get brakes right what else was done substandard. Not worth the risk and it won't be replaced with another Honda. Going to make one phone call to the dealer but don't expect anything based on the other comments listed here.

Unbelievable, had to replace rear breaks so soon!!! had to shell out $180 bucks for new brakes on a car that is only 1.5 yrs old, come on.... even the guy at the dealership said he had received about 5 calls last week for the same problem. Honda should stand behind their product and reimburse all of us who had to pay out of pocket to fix something that it clearly a defected part. I was going to recommend the Accord to friends who've been asking me about the car but I'm having second thoughts now. I Will definitely look at Toyota for next car.

I purchased a used 2008 Honda Accord with 11,000 miles and while I haven't yet experienced the brake problems many complained of here, I now worry that I probably will before long. I read somewhere that one of the federal highway agencies (not sure which one) determines whether or not a recall is necessary. That being the case I wonder if complaining to the Federal Trade Commission of some other consumer advocacy group would force Honda to deal with this issue, preferably through a recall.

I was surprised to see (on this same site) that the 2008 Honda Accord was listed as the 4th most problematic car. If that's the case and enough people complain, sooner or later Honda will have to take some kind of action -- I like to think.

I have never had to replace brake pads or shoes close to 22,000 miles. This is clearly a design problem and Honda needs to address it. I want my money back. This was rear brakes this time, but I think the front pads are going bad as well. I thought Hondas were bullet proof but obviously that was wrong headed thinking. This is my first Honda and clearly my last.

I was told the same line of BS at the Honda Dealer as everyone else, this is "normal wear". Rear brake pads don't wear before the front unless something is wrong with the car and I should have fought them on this. No matter, it was the second problem on this car and I decided it was time to trade it in. My third Honda Accord was no charm. I won't be buying another for a very, very, very long time.

Accord LX 4 cyl

Add me to the list of really pissed 08 Accord owners. My brakes started "talking to me" a week or so ago. Roughly 23K miles. Figure no way it's premature brake wear. Must be glazed rotors. Gets worse. Turns to a grind. "Oh, no!!" You can't be serious. metal on metal sound. Worse than nails on a chalkboard. Call the dealer. They say probably rear brakes. Have to make an appt. Sorry, but I work. Might be able to drop off if I can get a loaner. "Sorry we won't have any of those until next week". Crap!!!

I can do a brake job, so this evening I run by O'rielly and buy some new Wagner Therma quiet pads. Get home, pull the jack out of the trunk. "What??? are you kidding me? I couldn't jack my bicycle up with that little hook and screw deal!!! Borrow my buddies floor jack. Takes King Kong strength to unseat the lugs. Some overpaid UAW guy in Marysville, OH got a little carried away. Pull the tires. Barely avoid busting my knuckles loosening the caliper bolts. "Whew!!!" Slide the caliper off and the slide out the pads. About 1.5 mm on the outside of the driver side. Inside pad is completely gone. Metal to metal. Weird thing is the leading edge was obviously making premature contact. Real uneven wear. (I'll post pics soon). Without even pulling the rotors I can feel a huge uneven gouge in the backside of the rotor. Are you freaking kidding me!!!

Not able to get the rotors turned tonight. Doubt the one on the driver's side is salvagable anyway. Slapped in the new pads. Put everything back together. Test drive...No sound whatsoever. Good stopping power with then new pads.

Heading to the dealer tomorrow to go raise hell. Funny thing is, I priced out pads and rotors at the dealer. Rotors: $82 a piece. Pads: $63 for the set. Figure an hour for labor at $50/hour = $277.

I bought my aftermarket pads (probably better product) for $37. Rotors are going to cost $40 a piece at Orielly. Labor: Free. $117 all in all done. You better believe I'm going to try to get the dealer to cut me a check or give me a free service.

You know there's just nothing enjoyable about buying or servicing an automobile anymore. I hate the car business.
