29,000 miles and the rear brake pads have gone bad? Not very dependable, which is the reason I went with an Accord. This is BS!

Ridiculous... recall this break system!

If it's not broke, don't fix it! Why didn't I listen? After owning Toyotas for the past 18 years, with no car problems, I made a switch to Honda. The 2008 Accord was really an eye catcher and I had always heard about the great reliability. What a joke, rear brakes failed prematurely at 21,000 miles. And what was the response by Honda Service, "we have seen this problem where people ride the brakes hard". That was the quite the joke with my three teenage sons who say I drive like an old man. At least the mechanic from Honda was honest, telling me this has been happening quite a bit with the 2008 Accords. I hope that Honda does right by its' customers and admits their mistake and reimburse all that have had to replace their brakes and those who soon will.

I have had 5 honda's and other cars brand new, I have never had to replace any rear brakes on any new car I have every bought. My breakes most often last 70000 to 80000 an then only the front brakes were Bad But I have always did complete rotors turned and brakes. I called Honda and they said that rear brake rotors are smaller and they are not asbestos so they said they would not last as long " BS' This is Not the same Honda co. I can recall. THanks.

This is the second time I have had to take my car to the dealer for premature wear and tear on the brakes. The brakes are falling apart. Apparently Honda is aware of the problem but refuses to take responsibility. I called the consumer affairs office and they were aware of the problem. The consumer affairs office told me I might have to pay for the brakes. They told me if there was a recall I would be reimbursed for the brakes. Thanks Honda you know you have a problem with the brakes but you chose to wait until you have lots of complaints. That is the American way.

I was not aware as Honda Cooperation was that something was wrong with their brake pads. The dealership took care of the brakes by replacing them for free. This is now happening all over again with the front brakes. I am not certain that the dealer will cover this again because it has been over twelve months since we signed the lease agreement. Honda should take some responsibility for the brake pads.

I have had my 2008 Honda Accord for just over a year and at 25,000 I am already having to replace the rear brakes in the car. The dealership wanted to charge $250 b/c it is not under warranty so I went to Midas and got a way better deal. This car is fun to drive but Honda needs to come out with a solution to fix the wearing down of brakes after only 25,000 miles.

I purchased a Honda because I had heard of their reliability.......WRONG!!! Front brakes had cracked pads and rear brakes worn at 22,000 miles...what a joke. I contacted Honda USA and their looking into it..yea right. My wife was told at MISTLIN HONDA MODESTO, CA that this was normal on all cars for the rear brakes to wear out first. I had a 2000 Ford Focus that 280,000 miles on it when I sold it I replaced the fronts 3 times and the rear once. Buyer beware of the 2008-09 Honda Accord

My rear brakes started squeeking, then grinding badly. My 2008 Honda Accord (Note: my third Honda Accord) is great but the brakes need to be recall. My new Accord only has 20230 Miles (75% highway) and shouldn't need brakes, period, at this time. I am so F... mad that Honda has not recall this issue with there brakes. Brought Honda Accord into dealer for 15,000 mile check up. B1 wrench light lit. Found out that the REAR brakes were completely WORN OUT. They replaced brakes with new ones and Honda did cover this under the car warrranty.

Quite shocked to learn that they were that bad and needed to be replaced so soon. Honda dealer said this is a concern they are seeing on other 2008 Accords. PLEASE HONDA, HAVE A RECALL on this issue so consumers can learn about a possible problem. If you own a new Honda Accord please get your brakes checked out now. I see from others posting here that similar problems with the rear brakes exist on their cars.

I've never owned a car that had the brakes go out in less than a year. I am really disappointed that Honda is not standing behind their product and covering this under warrantee. They realize that there is a problem and state that they are looking into a redesign. While they perform R&D they should at least cover the first brake job.

My last car, a Toyota 4Runner is 12 years old with 180,000 miles and I've only replaced the brakes twice. There is no way that I am going to pay for a brake job every year. Although I love this car, I've already listed it for sale. I'm going back to Toyota.

Accord EX V4

Brought in my 2008 Honda Accord because of an awful noise when the brake was applied, as well as a 'rattling' noise while I was driving down the road. In disbelief, I was told I would need brand new brake pads and rotors! My husband said there is no way a car with only 30k miles should need those new things. When I took it in for a second opinion, (when I pulled up to the garage, there was an '08 Honda accord ex up in the air getting its brakes and rotors changed!), the man already knew what I was there for. We had both bought our cars from the same Honda Dealership, and he had told me the other driver had called to complain, so I thought I should too. Of course, they said it was normal 'wear and tear'. I brought it into the shop this morning (stuck at work without a car!), and decided to google for complaints on '08 Honda accord brakes! Man, was I suprised to find this website!!! After reading many of the complaints, I decided to call the Honda place myself. She said they were investigating, and that I should bring it to the Honda dealership for service. UMM NO!! They wanted to charge me much more than where I ended up bringing it. All she could say was to keep checking with the dealership to see if they 'find a fix' for the problem. Honda's have always been a great, dependable car to my family. My first car was a 2001 civic, and it was great! I moved up to the '08 accord, and have even been recently looking at a Pilot. I think my mind has changed a bit on Honda. It's aggravating to be driving a new car, and hear squeaks and rattling everytime I drive! If they would have been more than helpful to address this issue - I may not be looking down on them so much now!

This was our first Honda. I was getting away from Chevy because they were cutting corners and seemed to stop caring for their customers. It seems Honda is the same way. The rear brake wear is not normal no matter what they are telling us. I'm 44 and I know enough about cars to know better. I will not buy another Honda and have already turn two friends away from buying a Honda. This is a joke that isn't funny. If they will not fix this problem then I will tell everyone I see to never buy Honda because they will break on off in you and tell you it's "normal". The internet is a great way to get the word out and I'm telling everyone on any forum i can. When we tell enough people that Honda doesn't take care of major design flaws they will take a big hit in sales. Go tell your friends, facebook, Twitter. blogs, and anything else you can to get the word out. Honda should either fix this or be ready to customer go somewhere else. GM did this and look where they are today.

I too need to have the rear brakes on my '08 Accord replaced at 42,500 kms. My service advisor did tell me that they had seen alot of this repair recently. As it turned out they started to squeak just as I pulled up to the service bay for a regular service point. I have been driving for more that 30 years and do not recall ever having to replace brakes this quickly. I even use my transmission to hold back the vehicle when going down hill rather than using my brakes.

Honda Canada told me it was a normal wear item but that they would list my complaint if I wished. I sent a note to my dealer telling them that I didn't think that what I recieved from Honda Canada was a very good customer service response. Since that time I discovered this web site and have been watching it grow.

I did pass this site along to my dealer so they could see what people were saying. What Honda Corporate should understand is that for every one person who complains 26 have the same complaint but but don't put it to paper, rather they tell other people which further ruins the reputation of the company. Plus with the power of the internet we can tell even more people.

Honda needs to step up to the plate and fix this problem before it becomes even larger than it is at the present time. Class Action Suit what do we need to do, it is very apparent that this is an issue that is growing.

The rear brake pads on this car suck! I got the car when it first came out and I am about to change the brake pads for the second time with only 16,000 miles on it. They are so loud and squeaky that is catches the whole streets attention. I took it to a mechanic and he told me I had less than a month to change it because they were really worn down. Honda needs to fix this for free because this is bullshit and my car is an embarrassment and making me hate it. Thanks.

I went to Honda service center for Oil change. The services person advised that my 2008 Honda accord rear pads are worn out and I need to replace them. I was really shocked with that. I have another 1999 Camry and never had to replace the read brakes. After I came home did a search on internet and found this site where lot of other people had similar problem.

This is really absurd. I am going to file a complaint to BBB and will consider my decision to buy new Honda vehicle again. Hope Honda understands the customer frustration and recalls this problem.

This is the 3rd Honda that I have had since I was able to drive. A 1990 Civic, a 1998 Civic and now a 2008 Accord. Imagine how surprised I was when I took the car back to the dealer in July for a check up to be told by my service advisor that I was going to need to replace my rear brakes in the next 6 months. My rear brakes are now at 50%, which is down 40% from Dec 2008 and I only bought the car in May 08. I have 14K miles on the car and I am EXTREMELY disappointed to hear that Honda has not fixed this problem and ordered a recall.

Now I do find that I feel better that I am not the only one that is having this problem and I have complained IN WRITING to Honda and suggest everyone else with this problem do the same.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Honda Automobile Customer Service 1919 Torrance Boulevard Mail Stop: 500 - 2N - 7D Torrance, CA 90501-2746 800-999-1009 Phone 310-783-3023 - Fax

Now I have seen quotes from people here ranging from $150-$400 to fix this problem. I have also read where people are buying ceramic instead of OEM in order to rectify this issue. I have also read where people are buying the parts & replacing them on their own to avoid paying for the labor but unfortunately, I am not one of these handy do-it-yourself people. I do not know how I will deal with this when it comes down to replacing the brakes but I am NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!!!

I bought my car brand new in sept. 08. Known for its reputation of having very reliable, strong, and economical etc..cars I went with the reputation and made a f'n mistake! It seems like Honda took advantage of this reputation and put cheap parts on the new cars. The accord is not the only culprit of cheap parts, The civic has the same problem!

I have owned numerous used vehicles in the past both foreign and domestic, all have had a brake life of about 40-60,000 miles in Southern California traffic! Today I looked at the pads and rotors and ALL 4 need replaced at 25,000 miles! the rotors already have grooves and pads are worn down to the point of needing replacement immediately.

Accord EXL V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 15,000 miles

I was stunned to learn that my "reliable" new Honda had rear brakes that were designed to wear out in less than 20,000 miles. It started making an odd rattling sound, not the usual squeal you hear from the brake "tattler", and I definitely didn't expect that the brakes would wear out in less than a year. The service manager at my Honda dealer told me straight out that Honda had redesigned the rear brakes since they had made the front brakes so much "better". I got an appointment to have them replaced, then went home to look up the brakes online to see if I could purchase some after-market braking system to replace them with. All I could find was a racing brake setup that costs $1,200! I ended up buying some ceramic pads as an interim solution and replacing them myself to save money. My mechanic friend who looked at the brake pads said there was no way that these pads were large enough to stop a vehicle of this size and weight. His opinion was this braking system could definitely fail to stop the car if any type of brake failure occurred, regardless of whether it was in the rear or front braking systems.

I bought this car almost exclusively on word of mouth from friends regarding how reliable and well designed Honda cars were. I have to say I'm very disappointed with this design flaw, and with Honda's assertion that this is a "wear and tear" issue. With this many people reporting premature brake failure, it's obviously a design flaw that needs to be recalled and corrected. I know that as long as Honda continues to say that this isn't their responsibility, I won't have anything favorable to say about Honda or their products. I love this car in almost every other way, but I don't feel safe in it now, as I fear a brake failure could happen at any time, leaving me stranded (or worse) in a "reliable" Honda with unreliable and unsafe brakes.
