While the country has been focusing on Toyota recalls for slow action on defective parts there may be one other major car dealer with a safety issue that needs attention... Honda. Their '08, '09, and '10 models have defective brakes. Honda Canada admits it. Honda usa has yet to issue a recall. Do a google search for "Honda Accord brake problem". or check out this website: www.carcomplaints.com/recent_trends.shtml you can see that Honda Accord 2008 brake problems are by far leading any other problem (including Toyota) and the 2009 model counts (which are still brand new) are making the list of most problematic rank #8. there are over 731 complaints of premature brake failures on the 2008 Honda Accord (as of 24 Feb 2010), and Honda has so far not issued a recall. Please call Honda into account for their negligence just like you did Toyota. *this is a non-specific complaint. All mandatory fields of this online form may contain invalid information*

I have a 2008 Honda Accord and I am at 60,000 miles and this is the third time having to replace the rear brakes. The first time was at 24,000. It is all over the internet about the rear brake problems in 2008 Honda Accord yet Honda will do nothing to fix this problem!!! we as consumers are buying what we think is a very reliable vehicle yet we are spending so much money for something they need to fix as a recall!!! you can look at carcomplaints.com for instance and see all the problems we are having!! can you please look into this and make Honda do something about this" most cars have front brakes replaced several times before the rear one have to be replaced. Toyota is fixing their problems...why can't someone make Honda fix this issue please????"

My 2008 Honda Accord vibrates very rapidly when braking at high speeds. I brought the vehicle to my local Honda dealership and was told that all four brake rotors were warped at 29,500 miles. I then contacted american Honda and told them my problem thinking there must be a defect in their brake pads to cause such a problem at 20,000 miles but was told this is normal "wear and tear" and there was nothing they could do about my situation. This is not the first vehicle I have been the owner of and have purchased many Honda before and I have never had a brake problem at 20,000 miles let alone one that shook the car so violently that I thought I would loose control and have a very serious accident. Upon further research I have found many 2008-2010 Accord owners are having the same problem and are being told the same thing from their Honda dealers and american Honda. But it seems the real problem is Honda's new "organic brake pad" that heats up so much that it warps the brake rotor which causes the car to violently shake; this is why Honda just came out with a new replacement brake pad made from different material from the original.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord and drive about 22,000 miles mainly highway a year. At 20,000 miles my rear brakes went out a year after purchasing. I was told I must have drove w/the parking brake on and brakes were replaced. Next, as time went on many others were having the same problems and dealerships were aware and agreed this was an issue but Honda wasn't doing anything about it. I have now replaced my rear brakes a second time and called american Honda I have 42,000 miles this time. I was told due to the highway miles I'm getting more out of the brakes then intended. The brakes are working up to specs is what was said but also said that Honda knows this isn't right for the customer or for what a Honda buyer is expecting but there will be no change. I was heading toward the mountains of chatanooga when I was going to hit the mark for replacement. I was afraid to drive the car and have the brakes go out. I thought to replace them before the noise I'd hear just in case I was on the mountains. I took the car in and my rotors were effected even though I hadn't heard any signal noise yet and the rear brakes needed replacement. The dealerships apologize and admit they've brought this to Honda's attention but nothing is done about it. I could have been on those mountains with it going out but luckily I knew already it was a possibility and concern. For me, I'm going to have to replace the rear brakes yearly. It is still cheaper than me buying a new car in this economic time but awful to buy a trusted name like Honda and have this safety concern each year that a company is aware of but won't fix or take on the cost of repair. I was told that the problem was handled in this years model but don't know that for sure. No one is thinking at 20,000 miles their rear brakes might go out while driving. This is a problem that I hope will be addressed. I was told to send my complaint here by a service mechanic at Honda because he said he knows this is an issue not being addressed.

Accord 4-cyl

  • 1 miles
2008 Honda Accord lxp 4 cyl. Auto purchased 9/23/2007. Product/ manufacturing/engineering defect in rear brakes - premature rear brake wear. Rear brakes require new pads at approximately 22,000 to 24,000 miles. Consumers are unknowingly driving cars under warranty with rear pads below safety level. Neither the dealerships or Honda are alerting customers to the problem. They're waiting until the customer hears a squealing noise indicating metal is rubbing against metal, to acknowledge the rear brakes are worn. This is a known defect. The: Dealerships, Honda worldwide, and american Honda are aware of the defect. I drove the car for 6 months or longer with unsafe brakes. So are thousands of consumers. The rear pads were at 00mm at 30,840. Front pads at 7mm at 30,840 dealerships are not taking a proactive approach to ensure the consumers' safety. The brakes should be checked at regular intervals as early as 10,000 miles. A consumer counts on the dealer and manufacturer to ensure known equipment and safety issues are corrected. The dealer and mfr. Cost for the part and labor without mark-ups is $50 to $75. Consumers are being asked to pay for the ongoing repairs at a cost of $180 - $255 including the mark-ups. Consumers expect that a new car under warranty will have safe equipment and brakes. Consumers also expect that the Honda dealerships and Honda worldwide will absorb the cost of the repair. The consumer would have no expense during the warranty period at a low mileage were it not for the product/engineering defect. There should be no cash outlay by the consumer. **this is a safety issue and product defect issue.**

Brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord have prematurely worn - at 19000 miles the Honda dealer said my rear brakes needed to be replaced - they were at.338 and.336 - this is unheard of. Front brakes were at.8 and ok. It is my understanding that for 2008 & 2009 Honda went to smaller rear pads and rotors and that's why they wear out so fast. This is a serious defect in workmanship.

Premature rear brake wear on 2008 Honda Accord. My vehicle has only 1.5 mm remaining on rear brake pads with just 17,200 miles. Honda claims this is a result of my driving style. In fact, this is a design flaw affecting thousands of 2008 Honda Accord. Rear brake pads on a front wheel drive vehicle should not have to be replaced at 17,200 miles. This is a safety problem.

  • 17,000 miles
Premature brake wear on 2008 Honda Accord. The brakes on my 2008 Honda Accord needed to be replaced at 17,000. Honda claims this is normal wear and tear; however, any seasoned driver knows brakes should last much longer. After some research on the internet, it appears that this is a common problem among 2008 and 2009 Accord. Some are having to replace brakes at 9,000 miles. To me, this is a safety hazard. I had no idea my brakes needed replacing. There were no warning signs - no squeaking, no clicking, the car did not drive and/or brake any differently. Typically, I would not have the brakes checked at 17,000 miles for no reason. The problem was brought to my attention on a routine oil change. To me, this is a safety hazard. Had I not hat that oil change, I would have kept on driving an unsafe car, with the risk of a complete brake failure. The dealership would not cover the cost ($270) because Honda is not acknowledging that there is a problem with 2008 and 2009 Accord. It is not safe to have this many cars on the road with brake issues. I elected to trade in the car, rather than dealing with having to replace the brakes every 17,000 and I did not want to drive an unsafe vehicle.

The 2008 Honda Accord has a braking system that wears too quickly. I am already due to change the rear brake pads and I only have 18500 miles on my vehicle. My brother also had to change his brakes on his 08 Accord and Honda would not repair for free. Obviously this braking system is defected and not safe for the simple fact that no reasonable human being should have to replace brakes on their vehicle before 40-50000 miles. This is unacceptable and the vehicles should be recalled and repaired.

I own a 2008 Honda Accord exl-V6. The brakes on this car are unsafe and have failed repeated with premature wear on both front and rear brakes. I reported the issue to Honda national hq when my car had only 20,000 miles, was given a case number, and nothing was done except to apologize for my inconvenience. Now less than 9 months later the problem is occurring again. I just went on a website called www.carcomplaints.com and saw that almost 500 people have reported the same issue ! something needs to be done and Honda needs to take responsibility for this defect.

2008 Honda Accord all models brake problems. This is a known issue with Honda and there have been over 400 complaints on the website carcomplaints.com. Numbers of people all over the world has complained to Honda for this issue but nothing is being done. Honda will not recall the premature brake wear on all 2008 Honda Accord models. My brakes have went out twice since I had my car and it has only been a year. This is a safety problem because when the brakes go bad they just go bad no indication or warning. Honda is not owning up to the issue and they should be. Nothing has been to correct this failure of the brake system. Honda just says they are looking into it or that they need more people to complain. The website should be proof alone that a numerous amount of 2008 Honda Accord owners are complaining of this exact same issue.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord. Was told by dealer rear brake pads needed to be replaced after 15,000 mile service. Cost me $200. Dealer says that it wouldn't cover the cost and there's nothing they could do and that I should complain to Honda corporate. I have filed a report with Honda. Totally unreasonable for a car's rear brakes to be replaced every 15,000 miles.

There was not indication of the failure prior to failure. Failure of rear brakes and rotors occurred due to premature wear. I had to replace the rotors and pads, but calipers still sticking, meaning that I will be back shortly for another repair of rear brakes. Told by dealership that they are seeing tons of this problem on the 2008 and 2009 Honda Accord, some with as little as 9K miles. I was told that they understand that Honda does not how to fix this problem, an engineering issue with this new overhaul of the Accord. I am very nervous about not having a reliable braking system.

Honda Accord 2008. I first noticed while driving in freeway. Started with metal noise coming from the back wheels. It was intermittent noise at first but got more frequent after a week. Then I would hear the noise when I am driving on city street and on the driveway. Took it to the dealer where I purchased the car. The guy said it is a premature brake issue, should not have happened at 21235 miles, usually after 40000 miles you would expect this. Asked why this happened, he blamed on my driving that I am too hard on my brakes and should keep distance with other cars. I have been a loyal Honda customer for many years, never had this issue with any of my other Honda models. Had to pay $250 to replace the brakes. I searched on the internet and noticed there are many other 2008 Honda Accord owners that experienced the same issue/failure mode. Honda needs to recall its 2008 Accord and reimburse all its customers.
