Accord EX-L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 9,000 miles

When mechanics was doing warranty work on a 3rd gear transmission problem, they found the disks, flywheel, bush and bearings in the clutch assembly to be excessively worn. They claim I drove the car harshly to cause such an excessive wear and tear on the clutch assembly and it now needs to be replaced. I have been driving a manual transmission car for the past 7 years and never had such a problem. My two previous cars were the S2000 and Civic (both are manual transmission) and this problem was never seen. I drive my cars the way I have driven them in the past. I never redline or come close to redlining. I do use the clutch to slow down the car and I never ride the clutch. Considering there was a 3rd gear transmission problem found and this a new design of the Honda accord, I think the new design may have cause excessive wear and tear. I believe this is a Honda design problem and should be covered under their warranty.
