Accord EX-L 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

I finally admitted my timing chain was loose after about a month of trying other solutions to my problems. Car really struggled to accellerate, cruise control didn't work, check engine light on (P0341), slight rattling noise when accellerating. Replacing the timing chain is no joke of a job. Took all weekend. $600 for parts. Hurt my hands and knees badly. There's almost no space to work with. The only mechanic in town willing to do the job wanted $3600 to do it.

Accord EX 2.4L I-Vtec

  • Manual transmission
  • 150,000 miles

This 2008 Accord was purchased new - we reported issue with excessive oil consumption within the first year. Honda stated it was the spec for this engine - 1 quart every 1000 miles. We brought it back over the next 5 years always complaining about the oil issue. 3 years ago they had us do an oil consumption test and then did something with the on board computer. Nothing changed.

Last year the car started making an odd grinding noise when starting cold - Honda said just keep oil full. 2 months ago we break down and found out the timing chain needed to be replaced, common with this vehicle due to the Oil Consumption issue. We then find out that a recall had been issued to fix the oil consumption, that Honda had finally agreed there was an issue with the engine design and would fix it and at the same time would fix the timing chain.

This vehicle has 150k miles on it and the recall was only good up to 125k miles. So now, after complaining since 2009, and bringing the issue to HONDA since we bought the vehicle, they will not honor the recall. So we fixed the timing chain for $1400 but will continue to have to feed this auto a quart of oil every 750 miles. This was my 4th accord and 6th Honda vehicle owned and it will be our last.. We have been a loyal Honda Customer for many years until now, what a shame to lose us - we are very vocal and will continue to scream from the roof tops. Honda, "You just lost a customer"
