problem #1

Mar 202012

Accord EX-L

The car is at the Honda dealership now as they assess this and the multitude of other problems with my 2008 Honda Accord. I'll update this website once I hear back from them in a couple days. I'll be listing the other problems separately on this website as well. It just never ends with this car!!!

Update from Apr 24, 2012: The dealership recommended complete replacement of the steering gearbox; which is leaking on the left side. The cost is approximately $1,150 which I refused to pay.

Oddity #1: Honda replaced the intermediate shaft bearing that was part of my steering system since it is covered under my 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. Yet, the steering gearbox (which is clearly part of my steering system) is not covered under the same 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. Then again, the steering gearbox replacement cost around $900 more to fix than the intermediate shaft bearing.

Oddity #2: When the dealership initially told me about this problem, they made it seem as though it was critical that the repair be done. They said that the steering gearbox was "leaking pretty badly". After I refused to pay for this expensive repair, they told me that it'd be fine if I just ensure that my steering fluid is topped off whenever I get an oil change or other service to the car.
