Accord EXL 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,800 miles

This cracked happened to the car while it was parked at work sometime during the workday. When I got into the car at the end of the day, I found a "L" shaped crack originating from the driver's side for about one foot long then it turned 90 degrees and downward about 6-inches.

I looked at the location where the crack originated and found a tiny dot sized chip. This damage was behind/under the metal moulding that is at the outside of the car and is completely over the chipped area. Absolutely nothing had hit my windshield to have caused this crack. I brought the car to the local Honda dealer and showed him the cracked windshield and the moulding that extends over the clipped windshield area. He informed me that Honda does not replace windshields, and to use my auto insurance coverage to have it fixed.

I called Honda headquarters the next day, and their representative told me the same thing.

I then contacted my auto insurance carrier, and they arranged to have my windshield replaced. Their representative told me that Honda is being sued by them for over a million dollars because of all the windshields that Honda did not replace. Way to go Honda! You really do not stand behind your lousy cars.

Previous complaint sums it up. Crack in windshield was discovered from the edge of the rubber trim about half way up the windshield, though no chip or impact point was ever found and I was not aware of ever hearing a rock or stone hitting my windshield. Crack was about 3-5 inches when first noticed, but expanded to over 9 inches by end of drive same day. Windshields can only be repaired when crack is 6 inches or less so whole windshield needed to be replaced (I had it done by Safelite - which charged $350.00). Insurance only covers after you pay deductible and my deductible is $500, so all was out of pocket for me and the whole event was just a pain in the butt and unnecessarily so. Cheap windshield.

So when I picked up my new Accord, it was raining. The first time I stopped to get gasoline and cleaned the windshield I realized that what I thought was a streak from the driver's wiper was actually a scratch embedded in the glass. They ordered a factory windshield and replaced it. On the way home from the dealer I noticed a imperfection in the new windshield on the passenger side. A section of the glass was distorted and caused an annoying refraction. I had to wait two more weeks for the sealer to cure before they could install a second factory replacement windshield. I guess Honda quality control is not what it used to be.
