My 2010 Honda Accord makes a grinding noise for a couple of seconds after it starts. After looking online this is a very common problem with these vehicles. Problem is VTC actuator, it is pretty costly to have repaired $800-$1.000. Honda sucks for not having a recall for such a common problem.

I brought car into dealership. I told them the problem I was having and the dealership replaced the VTC actuator. The next day I had the same problem. I had the grinding noise when I started car in morning.
Update from Dec 9, 2016: I brought my car back to the dealer they kept it overnight , the next day they told me it was the starter. The car has been ok since then.

Every time i start my car engine in the morning its making that grinding noise and its super annoying. it scares me that something will break one day. i had the starter replaced and its still doing the same thing and contact honda they told me that the initial cost is $750 and they are not sure if the problem will go away they want to change the v-tec actuator its like an experiment and when u call them they are very rude. pls help if somebody have the solution.

vtc actuator noise when engine first starts running
After buying and still owning numerous Hondas, I am disappointed. The VTC actuator noise is a very prevalent problem. Does this problem cause oil consumption? I do not see how it could. I assume that oil consumption is a different problem.

Grinding noise (metal to metal sound) when turning key on. Just had a new starter put into the car TODAY (while under the 90 day/3,000 mile warranty.) Was told I would not have a problem anymore.....A half hour later, stopped to meet a friend, and went to restart my car and it grounded 3 times before it started???
When I mentioned problem on Google it stated that the problem was: that the starter drive was bad, OR, the ring gear on the flywheel was damaged. I told this to the people at the dealership! The new starter did NOT correct the problem!!! This all needs to be taken care of before my warranty is up because this is NOT MY FAULT! Also, now my radio does not work and information on the dash says "enter code'? and I have no idea what they are talking about and now I have NO RADIO! Very frustrated at this point!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! This car was just purchased February 23rd of this year!!!! HELP!!!!!

MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE ITS CHEWING ON METAL!!!!
I took my car to Honda to check out the crazy disturbing sound around Sept 17, 2013. I am still under warranty I left my car overnight so that they can hear how the car sounds upon start up. They said they did not hear anything, which was quite odd because it was louder the very next day after the car came from the dealer service department. I was told that it could be the VTC in the car. This chewing metal sound when I start my car happens in the morning at lunch time or whenever and it is disgusts and embarrasses me when other people that are part next to me hear the metal chewing.

I started seeing this problem during cold start of my car and it's going on for almost an year or so. After calling Honda customer care I was told that the problem is outside of the warranty, though Honda has issued a TSB 09-10 to fix the problem which is replacement of the VTC actuator. The internet is filled with people having this issue.
A local Honda dealer gave me the estimate of $800 to fix the issue as per TSB and said the cost could be more if they find other wear and tear like timing belt and what not after opening the engine.
