Accord LX 2.4L 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,500 miles

Hi there, Ive purchased my Accord with 12.000 miles on it and since then till now with its approximately 58,550 miles, the car aside from its at times uncomfortable front seats has been rock solid. I always love this car and always felt that it was extremely well made; manufactured to be very reliable and to be a long term vehicle. I also followed the maintenance schedule to a T, even taking it in its exclusively to Honda to have it serviced. The car is in 9/10 condition with the interior being a 9.5/10

Today, I was driving as normal, everything seemed perfect and went into my local Target parking lot where I stopped to wait for a person to exit a spot. As I relive my foot from the brake, the car didnt move. The engine was on and was in drive but it wasn't moving. I then turned the car off and then right back on again. This time, the "check engine" and "traction control" lights went on when they were not previously on, and they also were flashing. The engine turned on but yet again, the car would not go into gear. Because I was holding up traffic for one of the largest Targets in the San Fernando valley in Los Angeles county 3 days before Christmas, I had to move my car out of the way and myself along with some nice spectators tried to push the car into the spot I was originally waiting for except for when I went to push the brake once the car was in the spot, the brake wouldn't engage either so I had to pull the E-brake. I let the car sit for 5 minutes before trying to start it again. I also called AAA immediately to have them come tow it as it was not safe to drive at this point with no confidence in it stalling or worse, have the main brake line not work. I kept the car off for 15 minutes until AAA arrived and this is when I encountered the next crazy part of the story: the AAA truck was too big to enter the parking structure and I was on the 3rd floor.

So I went to start the car once more and it turned on. I placed it into reverse and it worked. Then to drive. Both the traction control and the check engine lights stayed solidly on but I drove it down the 3 floors until I had just exited the structure. Right as the car approached the exit ram in the concrete of the structure to go into the street, the car stalled once more. The RPMs went to 0 but the power on the inside remained on. I had it towed to Honda where they are keeping it overnight and are charging me $130 to diagnose what is going on. The car has about 1500 miles before the 60k mile powertrain warranty expires but you'll see, they'll fight me on fixing it and doing the right thing. The General Manager of Keyes Honda who has worked at this dealership he explained over 15 years and has been my service advisor the entire time Ive owned the car, he explained that he had never seen an issue like this before with this car. He also pointed out to me that when we started it at the service shop, the engine made a very weird, low rumble sound that wasnt normal and it wouldnt rev above 3500 RPM. Im very anxious to find out what the hell is going on with it and unfortunately it has caused me to have doubt in my cars ability to protect me in the case of a serious accident as it appears the car can disengage itself from operating properly at any given time for no apparent reason. I hope it can be fixed.

Keep in mind 5 minutes prior to all of this I was driving on the freeway at 65+ mph from y apartment in the West Valley....had it happened then on the freeway with the brakes not engaging, I might not be here right now typing this complaint.
