The contact owns a 2013 Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to immediately start when the push to start button was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer sons Honda (105 sons dr. Mcdonough ga ) where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The starter was replaced however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. No further assistance was provided. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 98,000.

Intermittent ignition failure. This seems to occur more frequently in colder weather, but I have had issues all year long. When attempting to start the engine, you hear a loud static noise with no engagement of the engine. I've had to abandon my car on a couple occasions due to this failure. Honda service technician advised me that this is a common issue and often results in replacing the starter. I don't have a written quote, but he verbally estimated the cost to be around $1,000.

Starter problems: Changed battery twice within 40K mileage (odometer reading) the last time they changed battery it was by Honda said my battery is not good and reason because something in the electrical withdrawing power and killing the battery and after 4 days at Honda dealer and charged me over $600 they could not identify the problem (they said)...in fact they said we think in the radio maybe! well after 6 months I found out the problem was not what they say but in the starter! the starter cause this issue until it finally the starter went dead! I open the starter myself and its definitely the starter causing this and I thought to bring it to your attention. Honda must known about this for sure! these condition it caused when its stationary. But so much pain. You drive the car and then you park and then when start nothing, painful experiences. It happened in may occasions, since I bought the car from dealer and until December 8 that is when I open the starter and saw this to for sure its the starter problem that cause battery to die early and Honda could not identify the problem at all until finally the starter wen dead. I am an engineer and confident its from the starter. I leave the matter to you to check and decided. Thanks

This problem started two years ago and got worse in May. It all started whe we had a rough time starting the vehicle it would take up to 6 time until the car would finally start. We were told it was the battery so we changed the batter up to four time and it still kept having starting issues so then we were told it was the starter so we had it replaced and we are still having issues and now the car stalled on me while stopped in the middle of a busy intersection and it took numerous tries and it finally turned over. Our local dealership had the car for 13 weeks and told us they were able to duplicate the starting issues and then told us a few days later they didnt push the button in long enough so it was there mechanics fault and then tell us they find a draw on the battery and a few days later tells us there mechanic used a faulty meter and then they blame it on our internet, smart tvs, garage door opener and wifi. I am so tired of all the excuses and need a car that's not going to leave me stranded and that I can feel safe driving the car out of town right now that's not the case. I do have several friends and family members that have had to come to my rescue to jump start my car or we have had to call a tow truck to get it to the dealership. We have had two ase certified mechanics look at it and were able to duplicate the starting issues and the battery draining and they both told us to take it to our local dealership. We have lots of video and documentation of what the car is doing and also friends that will speak on our behalf. No one will ride with me anymore in fear the car wont start or stall while stopped in a busy intersection. We started having issues two years ago but got alot worse in may of this year.

Repeated ignition system failure on 2013 Honda Accord V6 touring with push button start that left my daughter and me stranded on a night when it was only 13 degrees above zero. Push button start only resulted in a grinding noise, no attempt to engage flywheel to start the engine. Starter has been replaced twice and the torque converter once (at the recommendation of the dealer to fix this issue) with the same resulting grinding noise and failure of the engine to start. This issue has been reported to Honda corporation many times; it is a poorly engineered and faulty design that they refuse to acknowledge and cannot fix.

Accord

I purchased new a 2013 Honda Accord 4 cyl in August 2013 which had the battery sensor replaced at 26,010 miles in October 2017. Shortly thereafter, I started experiencing an intermittent starting problem. When I turn the key, the dash lights turn on as normal, but the engine does not turn over or even crank. While this does not happen all the time, it happens frequently and it can take between 2-6 tries before it finally starts at home or anywhere I traveled. Aaa jumped me once too. Dealer said to switch keys as it may be the immobilizer sensor in my key. Then December 2018 at 32,935 miles, dealer recommended I replace the battery which I did, but issue continued, July 2019 at 36,555 miles, dealer performed diagnostics stating the starter was bad but there wasn't a recall and it's more than 36 months so out of warranty. Dealer does not apply the cost of the diagnostics against the repair. Total cost for diagnostics, starter and tax was $889.47. Plus the dealer sold me a refurbished starter with a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty stating a new starter only carries a 12 month warranty. Almost $1K is a lot of money for one repair for a senior citizen for a car with 36K miles. Appears this is a common issue so Honda motor co should recall the starter and provide reimbursement to those who had to have it replaced to avoid being stranded.

Vehicle would occasionally not start. When pressing the button, a static noise is heard. The starter is spinning, but not engaging with the torque gear. The starter motor has been replaced three times but the result is the same. These start issues are a daily occurrence. The only way it starts is if I shift to neutral and try. Occasionally that doesn't work and I have to shift back to park and try to start it there.

The car is having starter issues. Randomly will start and then won't. there are thousands of complaints about this on the internet. Same make and model, same issue. The system or starters are obviously defective and should be recalled. This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time for us- at least a year or more.

Key-less access control unit is very unreliable. The push button start does not always engage. This makes starting the car a variable time event and not suitable for moving the car in an emergency situation. The problem was well known by Honda and presumably fixed in some 2013's. Honda service bulletin 13-038 told Honda service departments to replace the module as a warranty repair. They cut this off at VIN DL002124, but the problem continues. Streetsboro Ohio Honda tells me they can order the part but they want over $600 to repair this design flaw. I purchased the car in December of 2013 and was unaware of the issue for a long time. I thought the car was just hard to start. I mentioned it to a service man at bedford Honda at the time, but the car started up for him several times in a row so I just lived with it. It's now much worse.

I think this might be my 3rd complaint, I love Honda and have had Honda cars for years, but this has really tested my patience. For the last 4 years I have gone through 3 starters and 2 alternators, every time I contact Honda they tell me to drop the car off so they can test it, I pay them $130 so they can tell me what they already know. My problem is that starter issue is very common, and there is no long term fix for this issue. So the issue is back, I end up getting stranded in places for hours at a time, and sometimes even end up being late to work, due to my starter spinning away until I can get it to catch eventually. I took it to get appraised the other day, and it wouldn't start ofcourse, the dealer refused to look at the vehicle ofcourse, because no one wants to sell a lemon. At this point, I am either looking for Honda to buy my car off me, replace it, or come up with a permanent fix. If you go on youtube and type in Honda starter issue you will find plenty of videos, and I also have reciepts for all the trips my car took to the dealer. I am not going to install a 4th starter, that is that rediculouse, I refuse to go to a Honda dealership again for them to tell me what I already know.
