When driving the power steering would stop working completely and vehicle operator could barely steer the vehicle. When going around a corner the power steering cut out and the driver skidded off the road but was not injured. We had to get this fixed because it was a life threatening problem. It cost us 2,500 dollars to get fixed. Honda had to replace the power steering unit steering rack. This is obviously a manufacturers defect that Honda should have paid for but we had to pay out of our own pockets because it was too dangerous to drive the vehicle.

This is to inform you I made an appointment for 2/20/2021 with my local Honda dealership one week prior based on the recall letter received from your office. I was was physically there, I was told by one of the advisor that they ran out of parts. No future appointment were made by the dealership. Not sure what is means but this was written under comments :DA212407, from the "complimentary multi point inspection" form. Personal arrangements were made to leave my car based on my convenience; the road conditions were very icy and treacherous to get there; my ride back home was waiting in the parking lot. After going through the process of checking in my car and leaving the dealership, then I received a phone call from one of the employees (yvonne) they could not accommodate me. In addition, I called your vehicle safety hotline yesterday 2//02/20/2021 to report this but your office was closed. I am very disappointed in the customer service I experienced. My car suddenly starting being very difficult to steer to the right and when trying to steer to the left it spins. This occurs while driving. I live in the mountains so it is terrifying to think of the potential should I be unable to control the car and run off the road. The car is unsafe to drive and I fear for my safety so I took it to the Honda dealership in boone, nc. This leaves me without a car to drive and no access to alternative transportation in my small rural mountain community. The dealership was unable to pull a diagnostic code from the computer. They used a diagnostic troubleshooting tree and found it to be an issue with the power steering rack and the repair would be nearly $3K. I have been a loyal Honda customer for 25 years and expect better. This appears to be a widespread issue that isn't being addressed by the company. There are hundreds of reports that I have seen online with this same issue so it is clearly a manufacturing flaw that needs to be remedied by Honda. I am an elderly widow and need reliable transportation. I do not have the funds to repair this car and need assistance from Honda and the NHTSA to help get this resolved. Thank you for your assistance and urgent attention to this matter for me and the many many many others facing this same failure in the 2013 Accord. Please do the right thing. People's safety should be foremost for any company like Honda.

While driving my steering wheel sharply turns left if let go of steering wheel. Accidently I noticed I have a letter from Honda to bring the car for steering gear software update where it references to two codes that if they are set Honda will replace the steering gear assembly and extends warranty to 13 years after the purchase. Dealer upgraded the software but test driving it and still car turns left sharply but their diagnostic is not coming with any code to say the what the issue is. The steering gear apparently is electrically driven. Their recommendation is to replace it at my own cost of $3750. I directly contacted the Honda corporate at 800-999-1009 and described the situation and a case number assigned (#11377924). Separately discussing the issue with dealer management and they said they also talk to Honda engineering to find the issue and hopefully at no cost to me. Unfortunately a couple of days the case has been turned down and Honda case manager indicated they are not willing to cover the cost. I argued this is a safety matter and accident can happen. Your Honda diagnostic could not come up with any code and you need to figure this out for your own sake and Honda reputation, but to no avail unfortunately. Dealer final offer was to give a couple of hundreds off of replacement cost. If there was a diagnostic and would be able to indicate the cause that would have been acceptable. Currently this is a safety issue. I have the Honda letter and dealership done the software upgrade but currently at the car is at the dealership the dealership is gillman Honda in houston, tx at hwy 59 and sam houston beltway South.

Vehicle stability assist is de-activated due to dtc 85-01 signal failure indicated in electronic power steering module. Because of this, anti-lock brakes are not functional. Ordered replacement vsa modulator through local repair shop first week in Aug 11, 2020, but Honda America estimates ship date of Dec 21, 2020 (19 weeks)! they ship thousands of new cars every week with new vsa modulators, meanwhile I have to drive my car with the critical safety equipment deactivated!

My steering stopped working while in a parking lot and fortunately not while making a turn. I was able to muscle it home but it was fighting me the whole time and I had to take very wide turns. There was a related recall for a steering software update and an extended warranty for a steering torque sensor. In this case it was the eps steering module which had to be replaced so it was not covered. Since there are known problems with the steering, I think the eps module should be considered in the recall/extended warranty bulletin since it impacts the same safety issue as the recall.
