In January 2021 we took in my 2013 Honda Accord into my local Honda dealership because the steering wheel would jolt to the left while driving. It was very unsafe. My husband found information about an extended warranty having to do with the steering. Honda said that the car was not registering the specific code to fix it under the extended warranty so we would have to pay out of pocket which was over $3,000. We had read some comments from people experiencing the same issue but their Honda's fixed the issue. Ours would not. We took it back to our local Honda again and I called the corporation, again Honda said they can only fix this safety issue with payment. We then took the vehicle to a reputable mechanic in town and they too agreed that this issue should be covered by Honda. Our Mechanic outreached to our local Honda AGAIN and a Honda 30miles away and both said they cannot do anything without payment. We were shocked by how Honda clearly knew about the safety issue and concern but still would not do anything without payment and clearly the extended warranty impacted the steering. We had no choice but to pay for the repairs. The day we got the car back from being repaired ($3,772.35 later) we see that NHTSA opened an investigation for a safety recall on the steering! I will be contacting Honda for a full refund.

The effort required to make a turn is very inconsistent and can change abruptly in the middle of the turn. For example, while making a left-hand turn, the steering wheel can, without warning, jerk back to the right. While this has primarily occurred at lower speeds, it has been severe enough that it has almost caused us to not make our turn and as a result nearly run off the road, or into a curb or into vehicle next to us (pulling into a parking spot). To be honest, only good luck can be credited for the fact we haven't gotten into an accident up to this point. As stated before, this issue primarily occurs at slower speeds (< 30 mph), and while we've been fortunate enough that we've been able to recover from the momentary loss of control, if this issue were to occur at higher speeds or in a traffic-dense area, there is a very real possibility of a serious accident occurring. None of the vehicle's warning lights have ever indicated that there is an issue with the power steering system. Out of concern, the car was taken to a Honda dealership where they were able to reproduce the issue and recommended replacement of the entire steering rack and control unit at a cost of several thousand dollars. As we believe that the rack and/or it's control unit have a design flaw that would also still be present in a brand new non-revised rack, we have elected not to replace the rack in hopes of Honda taking ownership of it's defective product and offering a real solution to those of us who are affected by this problem. The vehicle still has the original steering rack and can be made available to the NHTSA to demonstrate the abnormal steering behavior.

Car pulls to the right, actually will jerk the steering wheel out of your hands. Only at low speeds and very intermittent. Dealership said I must have hit something and I didn-??t. Cost to fix is more than the vehicle is worth. I believe this is a manufacturing defect.

The steering turns left. As soon as you start you car, with hands off the steering wheel the entire steering system turns left. Opened 2 cases with Honda and NO RESPONSE. Case # 11941086 and 12222896. Hillside Honda informs us that the codes don't show up so the only thing they can do is replace the steering gearbox and alignment for a customer cost of $3592 + tax. This was a sudden onset incident, no accident to the car. It is a safety hazard and Honda refuses to do anything about it.

Steering began pulling hard to the left within a relatively short space of time, 2-3 days. After checking the tire pressure on all four tires and discovering no variants, we knew there was a serious problem! Our safety and that of others was at risk! The problem was confirmed when the local Honda dealer said they could not perform an alignment on our vehicle until the steering system was fixed. Then, in order to make the vehicle safe to drive, the dealer said our only option was to replace the rack and pinion/power steering system in order to make it possible to align the wheels on the car. The dealer replaced said components on April 6, 2021. The component in question was not inspected by manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. However, it was inspected by our dealership who replaced the faulty steering system. There was no warning of any type before the steering began pulling to the left! We were surprised that this should happen with a Honda and especially one with less than 100,000 miles.

When I'm driving, my car will periodically steer itself to the right unless I forcefully hold the steering wheel against the direction it's trying to turn. This issue can also occur when idling at say a red light, or stop sign. This puts mine and others safety at risk because at any point my car could steer itself into another car without input. I have taken the vehicle to the authorized Honda dealer in my city and was told that it was an "alignment" issue. Funny thing is, I went ahead and got an alignment when purchasing new tires a few weeks later and on my way home the issue happened numerous times (with videos to prove it) and continues to happen to this day. My vehicle gave no warning or messages prior to the issue happening. This has been an ongoing issue for close to two years now so I'm very happy to see that the news that this is an issue that the NHTSA is probing. Honda insinuating that this is an alignment issue is an insult to mine, and my families safety.

The steering began pulling to the left. The alignment was examined and adjusted without fixing the problem. I lifted the front of the vehicle off the ground, started the engine and the steering turned slowly by itself to the full left stop. Took the vehicle to the Honda dealer for repair. They reset the error codes and examined everything. Upon leaving the dealer repair depot the steering pulled very hard to the left. I returned and complained. The manager helped out and contacted Honda Factory support. A 4 wheel alignment was performed and adjusted to factory specs. The electronic steering system was fully reset and reprogrammed. This seemed to fix the problem. About 1 month later the steering system began to act erratically and continues to do so. Sometimes when turning a corner the steering system pulls in the direction of the turn, right or left. Sometimes it acts normally. All oddities seem to related to accelleration and braking. When driving in a straight line there is no deviation left or right however it is always harder to turn the wheel left than right.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2021, my car suddenly vered to the left and I had turn my steering wheel excessivley (about 90 degrees) to get my car back into my lane. If there would have been a car next to I would have hit it someone or something. I suddenly was hearing a crackling noise from my steering column. I drove my car a couple of more times before I took it to roush Honda in westerville on 5/12/2021. When I took my cari explained the previous situation and told the gentleman that the noise in the steering column was getting louder and louder and he said I was getting charged $99 to find out what the noise is about and what was going on. On 5/13/2021, the service depart. Called to let me know that it was an alignment issue and said nothing about the noise. I asked them what about the noise and she said there was nothing on the service write up about a noise. So I asked for a manager. When the manager called, max wagner, he tried to tell me that the noise was coming from the tire and axle and not the steering column. You can clearely hear the noise coming from the inside of the car and steering column. I have a lifetime alignment with Firestone and take my car on a regular and responsible basis. Honda is clearly giving me a run around and is avoiding to fix the issue that is clearly a part manufacturing defect. Can this be investigated by your Agency?

The first time, while driving on the highway, my car steered to the right as I was driving West. It was like I was loosing control. It terrified me. It seemed like I was about to go over the bridge. It scared me so bad that I began having anxiety issues when driving over a bridge. It has happened several other times as well. I can no longer drive on the highway because I am terrified. I now only drive streets at 35 to 40 mph. Please listen to what I am saying. I felt like that it was something wrong with the car but didnt know what to do. I thought maybe it was just my imagination so I sought psychiatric advice. The doctor diagnosed me has being afraid of height, but I knew better. I have been driving these highways for years and never had any fears. Please, please, please, please recall these cars. Please don't let there have to be an accident before something is done to resolve the issue. We bought these cars in good faith of being one of the finest. Because I felt like it was the car, I have already decided to get rid of mines as soon as I can.

My car steers to the right with no warning while driven. If I let go of wheel, it suddenly drift right. It happens on local road or highway. I had alignment done, tire rotation, that did not solve the issue. The drift comes and goes. The auto dealer says power steering is not covered under power train warranty. The tech at the dealer believe it's a sensor issue and not safe to drive as is. Even after shut off the car, the wheel turns itself to the right.
