Steering wheel would not turn left or right and became very jumpy and stiff to steer!

After a driveshaft recall repair was performed on July 10, 2025, at Germain Honda of Dublin, my 2013 Honda Accord EX-L immediately began showing multiple safety system warning lights, including ABS, VSA, traction control, and check engine. These lights had never appeared prior to the repair. Diagnostic codes included: -??VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction -??Modulator Control Unit Power Source Circuit (IG) Low Voltage These point directly to the ABS/VSA modulator, which is located near where the driveshaft repair was done. Despite the timing, Honda has refused to cover the repair, quoting me nearly $3,000. The dealer also cleared the codes before I arrived and then claimed they were -??historic-?? with no documentation. I-??ve confirmed my battery and alternator are in good condition, ruling out the common causes of voltage errors. I believe something was disturbed or left improperly connected during the recall service, resulting in a dangerous condition involving the vehicle-??s braking and stability systems. This is a potential safety risk that arose after a manufacturer-issued recall repair, and I am requesting a formal investigation into similar cases if reported.

The ABS pump/motor, ABS modulator needs to be replaced. This is a pretty common issue with the Honda Accord from 2008-2017. Fixing this problem is expensive at the dealer. I believe Honda motors should have a recall about this situation because how pricy this is. Looking online for information and videos on youtube many people have been quoted 2,800 dollars and up to replace it. I just replace the ABS sensor driver side and ABS, Brake, Steering Wheel came out. These are coming on and off. Please I would like to get some help with this situation.

I had my vehicle serviced and repaired at Barber Honda here in Bakersfield, California, last year. They replaced the electrical power steering, but the problem came back. While driving the car the power steering light comes on and power steering goes out then. No warning just goes off and power to steering wheel is not working. This has happened going 55 mph. My 2013 Honda Accord experienced very dangerous steering problems. Without warning the steering wheel became very loose and I had to tightly hold the wheel with both hands to keep from crashing. The steering wheel was very tight and difficult to turn when turning right. The Honda dealer duplicated and confirmed my experience. They did a complete diagnostic check. The mechanics said there were no DTCs and the problem persisted after updates to the software. They suggested a RECC gearbox and possible internal computer chip. My mileage reads 106,000 miles.

When driving my vehicle, the steering wheel gets sticky and is hard to turn and if I move the wheel slightly to the right the wheel automatically turns all the way right. I have almost gotten into an accident a couple times due to this issue. The steering wheel does not turn back to center. I see that this is a common issue for my vehicle make and model. This is a severe issue that can cause bodily harm if not replaced quickly.

While driving on [XXX] in Selden, NY on [XXX] @ the speed of approximately 45-50 mph my 2013 Honda Accord Sport (sedan) abruptly, unexpectedly and violently lurched to the left on it's own while I was holding the wheel with my fingers. Thank God I was already in the left lane because my vehicle went off the left shoulder and began to go onto the grass in the median but I was able to recover before completely going of the road. Had I been in the right lane I would have ran into a vehicle in the left lane because traffic was heavy at the time. Up until this point, my car drove straight and true without the need for alignment, air pressure adjustments, brakes or balancing. I know this because I have a little over 95,000 miles on the car and I keep my Honda pristine. However, to rule out the obvious possibilities I had an alignment done and all 4 tires checked for balancing and tire pressure issues. My brakes are in excellent condition and the vehicle did not make any unexpected sounds either before or after the incident and no dash board lights came on before or after the incident. I went to my mechanic and he researched the problem and I was told that the EPS was malfunctioning so he reset the computer and the problem seemed to be rectified. Unfortunately, the problem occurred again, on [XXX] except this time the car lurched to the right with the same intensity. I went back to my mechanic on Friday, June 6, 2025 and after diagnosis I was told that the same problem is occurring with the EPS but this time it cannot be fixed and the cost of repair is approximately $3200. I did some research on line and found a ton of information on complaints about faulty EPS systems in multiple year Honda's and an investigation that is ongoing involving the NHTSB about this defect. I went to Baron Honda, in Patchogue, NY and one of their service managers, Steve, says he hasn't heard anything about any of this. I call [XXX]. While driving at about 20 - 30 mph making turns either right or left my steering locks up causing me to almost hit a pedestrian. I was able to stop the car on n time. Very common problem it appears as there are several forum post from other accord owners 2013 and above that have all reported dash lights up with traction control, tire pressure, power steering, ABS and some instances Brake will illuminate on the dash board, and some have reported a combination of these lights or all of them. The culprit is a broken solder on the ABS module from my understanding and its something Honda is aware of but have not recalled. The part itself costs $1500, just for the part and does not include labor. This is a common issue that should be taken care of by honda as its a huge safety issue with the ABS, Traction control, power steering, tire pressure monitoring and brake not working when needed in an emergency situation. This is a huge safety risk that needs to be addressed. It also affects the value of the vehicle if not repaired.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle was pulling to the left. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that another vehicle was approaching close by on the right and the contact attempted to steer over to the left. The vehicle was extremely close to the highway grooves and the steering wheel seized to the left. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with power steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Traction Control/ABS/Brake lights turn on 122-11 VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction and 83-11 which causes pcm malfunction. This is a known problem with Honda vehicles and should be a recall. When this error occurs traction/abs/brake, LDW fcw are disabled. The fix for this is over $1000.

Malfunctioning sensors associated with the ABS and stability systems. -Repair Details: Replacement of the VSA modulator unit is often necessary. Cost of repair typically ranges between $2,000 and $3,000. Many owners report delays in repairs due to part availability. -Reports and Complaints: Numerous complaints can be found on forums, owner groups, and repair sites detailing identical failures in 2013-?"2017 Honda Accords. Commonly reported safety risks include increased stopping distances and difficulty maintaining control on slippery roads. Honda-??s Response: Some owners report that Honda dealerships acknowledge the issue but do not offer repairs under warranty unless an extended warranty is in place. There is an already a recall for the VSA modulators for 2022 Accords. I believe this should be extended to their earlier models with the same issues.

2013 Honda Accord EX-L V6 2 Separate Malfunctions Loss of all Power Steering Faulty VSA Module effecting Dashboard Indicators Broken VSA (Vehicle Stability Assistance) Module causes the ABS, FCW, LDW VSA, Steering, and Tire Gauge Warnings to light up solid. Causing the driver to be unaware if anything is wrong with the vehicle. Also leaving the car without working safety features promised by Honda such as the (FCW) Forward Collision Warning and (LDW) Lane Departure Warning Due to the Faulty VSA Module I did not receive a warning at my loss of power steering. I was able to maneuver myself off the main road and take it to a local mechanic who after scanning and checking was confused and suggested that it would most likely need an entire steering rack replacement. Still haven't gone to an Official Honda Dealership. I did not receive any warning from the vehicle when my power steering went out. Due to the faulty VSA module affecting the lights on my dashboard that included the one that would indicate faulty Power Steering. This is the first year of the model to incorporate ESA. NHSTA has had a open investigation into the faulty Power Steering but was eventually closed due to lack of reports. Many people have been reporting similar issues with this model and it has caused accidents and allegedly some deaths. At this current time there is no safety recall by Honda to fix either the Broken VSA Module or more importantly the Power Steering. VSA Modules have been recalled and replaced by Honda in different countries but not in the United States. The Faulty VSA Module puts drivers at risk by leaving the driver unaware of any potential issues with their vehicle until the problem already happens and leaves mechanics confused as to what the issue actually is. I implore NHTSA to take action against this very dangerous issue with both the loss of Power Steering and the VSA module with this year and model of Honda.
