Wife was driving at around 35 mph when the power steering cut out. No warning lights or anything. I drove it next day and no issues....day after that I drove it with essentially no power steering. I bring it to the dealer, "electronic power steering motor" they tell me....they replace that and then decide the "control box" for it also needs replaced....they replace that and the issue is still not resolved. Now they are telling me they dont know whats wrong with it and they are in direct contact with Honda (its at a Honda dealer.) he tells me last night to be patient "theres something we need to try" I said ok keep me updated havnt heard back yet. I see theres lots of issues on here about this how is it not a recall? I also found a thread from 2015 where people have paperwork about a recall....but can find nothing about this recall on Honda website. Not sure what to do being the bill is already over 2K and they dont even know what they need to fix....

I purchased my 2013 Honda Accord last fall. It had 28,000 miles on it at purchase and has 36,700 miles today. Two weeks after I had an oil change and tires rotated, I began having issues with the power steering pulling left. While traveling at 50mph on a crowded city highway, my steering wheel jerked left and I could have hit the car in the lane next to me. The problem presented at intermittent times occurring later in a trip. I did an experiment in a parking lot; rolling forward very slowly, I let go of the steering wheel. The steering wheel spun to the left and the car executed a perfect 90-degree left turn by itself. The car did this again twice more despite turning the engine off for a period before turning it back on. I took it back to my local mechanic who could find no error code but could replicate the problem. After resetting the torque sensor, it was a bit better but not fixed as the car still wants to turn left. The steering is erratic sometimes it is hard to turn right and sometimes the steering feels loose. My local mechanic sent me to the dealership where I purchased the car who suggested I take it to a Honda dealer. The dealer's service department also replicated the problem but could not fix it because the car did not show any error codes and Honda will only reimburse them if the car shows two specific error codes. I followed their suggestion to call Honda; [xxx]. the regional case manager called me back, did not ask me any questions about my problem but rudely launched into a rapid-fire lecture about why Honda was not responsible for fixing this problem in my car. Both mechanics who looked at my car state it needs a new power steering rack and this is a safety issue. I am a doctoral student, I cannot afford a $2500 car repair quoted by both mechanics. I LOST MY POWER STEERING AT 65MPH DRIVING TO THE COAST ON HIGHWAY 26 IN OREGON. I NEARLY CRASHED MY CAR ON THE CURVE WHEN MY WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN LIKE IT NORMALLY DOES. I HAD TO YANK THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO STAY ON THE ROAD. I WAS TERRORIST! I SLOWED MY CAN TO 50MPH THE REST OF THE 45 MILES TO MY BEACH HOUSE IN SEASIDE OREGON. THE STEERING CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND I HAS HAPPY TO HAVE THE TRAFFIC SLOW DOWN 20 MILES OUT OF SEASIDE TO BUMPER TO BUMPER. I BARELY GOT THE WHEEL TO TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT OUR SEASIDE, OREGON HOME. I STARTED MY 'RESEARCH' TO SEE IF A RECALL HAD BEEN MADE ON MY CAR FOR POWER STEERING BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE DIED HITTING THE WALL OF DIRT AND TREES LEAVING THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE! I FOUND AN ARTICLE FROM 2014 THAT 374,000 PEOPLE HAD COMPLAINED OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. AND THAT YOU WERE INVESTIGATING BACK IN 2014! MY CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 42,000 MILES ON IT AND THAT WAS THE TIME OF THEM GOING OUT ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE. CARS EFFECTED WERE 2013-2017 HONDA ACCORDS EX. MINE IS THAT AND A V6. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE CRASHED & DIED WITH THIS FAULTY PART" DO YOU HAVE RECORD OF IT" I WANT THIS ELECTRIAL POWER STEERING PART RECALLED!! YOU HAVE FAILED WITH NOT RECALLING IT BACK IN 2014!! I AM HOLDING "YOU" ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS HAPPENING TO ME!! I WANT YOU TO PAY FOR MY CAR TO BE FIXED AND MY RENTAL CAR! I NEED YOU TO RESPOND TO ME [XXX] [XXX] IS MY CELL. YOU ARE LUCKY I DIDN'T CRASH!! MY CAR IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY IN SEASIDE, OREGON AND I NEED IT TOWED TO BEAVERTON, OREGON TO GET IT FIXED. I HAVE POSTED THE 2014 ARTICLE OF YOU NOT RECALLING THIS! We were driving on the highway on a trip to Texas and the steering wheel automatically turned on its own, causing us to almost crash into other cars on the highway. No lights appeared on our dash and it was out of the ordinary. We were driving 75-85 mph and could have injured multiple people if we had crashed. The steering wheel became so hard to control requiring my fianc to grip the steering wheel to turn it into the emergency lane of the highway. Once he let go of the steering wheel, it would turn really fast on its own to the left. He tried turning the car on and off, but the issue was still there. I called the Honda dealer and explained what I found on the NHTSA website. He said he would research it and call me back but he never returned my call. This is big safety issue that Honda is aware of and should cover the repair cost. I tried calling corporate only to have my call cut off 3 times. What is the actual problem; because without a dashboard light and no code we don't know?

I was getting off the highway and was driving home along the service road when I noticed the steering wheel automatically turned on its own, causing me to almost crash into parked cars. No lights appeared on my dash and it was out of the ordinary. Luckily I was off the highway driving at low speeds, otherwise I would have injured multiple people. The steering wheel became so hard to control requiring you to grip the steering wheel to turn it. Once you let go of the steering wheel, it would turn really fast on its own to the right. I tried turning on and off the car, unplugging the battery, but the issue was still there. I took it to the Honda dealer and also contacted corporate in which I was told that the rack and pinion is bad, and if the car doesn't show a code, they won't cover it. My car only has 46K miles, and a big safety issue like this should have been covered or partially covered. Instead, I was told it was going to be over $3K for install and parts, which is ridiculous.

We bought the Honda Accord from the dealership brand new and took delivery 11/4/2013. On Saturday 11/16/2019, with just over 40,000 miles on the car we noticed that the power steering was not functioning. It was not only hard to steer but also would continue progressing in the direction turning. We took the car back to the dealership on Monday 11/18/2019 where they stated that the rack, power steering needed replace for a total cost of $2,797.49. Contacted Honda customer service and they refused to help. Contacted the extended warranty company since the extended warranty expired 12 days earlier. They wouldn't help. This was a very dangerous failure on a vehicle that was well taken care of and has very low millage. Did some research and found and article in edmunds "feds probe 2013 Honda Accord for power steering failure", estimate 374,000 complains about the 2013 Honda Accord. Isn't that enough to force Honda to do a recall?

I was driving on busy 4 lane road and was turning to the left to get in the turn lane when the steering wheel became very hard to move. I was able while struggling to make the turn. It was lucky as there was no oncoming traffic. I had the car immediately towed to the dealer and now have a $3,000 repair bill to fix the power steering. I have noticed all the complaints going back to the original year the vehicle was built and cannot believe that this problem has not caused a recall.

  • 175,000 miles
I am the original owner of a 2013 Honda Accord. I travel about 30K a year. I have been extremely meticulous with the exterior and maintenance of the vehicle. During the course of my travels, I have on at least 4-5 occasions had difficulty changing lanes. More specific, while trying to make a lane change at low speed (5-35 mph) I was unable to turn the wheel to make a lane change. The ability to steer came back quickly, but for a second or two, a turn was not possible. This past week, on 10/30/2019, a similar scenario transpired. I was stopped at a "stop" sign and needed cross an intersection and make a left turn. Just when it was time to turn, the steering wheel locked, not allowing me to turn left. As there was an oncoming vehicle, I was able slow down but struck a curb with my right front tire. The impact beat up the rim pretty bad and deflated the tire. I replaced the tire with the spare and headed to a near mechanic, about 1 mile away. The mechanic advised me not drive the vehicle. The damage included cracked rim, power steering rack and electronic steering box to name a few. In researching parts, I came across many incidents in which a 2013 Honda Accord has had failed steering capability. I contacted Honda (case #10012315), they did not acknowledge a problem now, nor in the past and could not comment on problems that other people have had. I was told that the vehicle was old and had a lot of miles. They told me "you had an accident, why are you calling Honda, you should be calling an insurance company". Honda would not do anything. I expressed my regret in not purchasing a future Honda vehicle... shame on Honda.

I was driving on the highway with my wife, mother in-law and my two years daughter and all of a sudden the steering wheel became very hard and steering light came on. I was very concerned about my family and myself because we were on the highway! I took the nearest exit it was very dificult to control the car. I stopped the to check my phone on what could be the cause? this seems to be a serious problem that happened to many people before and had reported it to the NHTSA. But nothing was done! I care for my family' safety and I will hold the NHTSA responsible if anything happens to me or my family due to this issue.this is a serious problem and needs to be addressed by Honda.
