This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
I just experienced a catastrophic starter failure on my 2014 Honda Accord. My car had only 56,000 miles. The engine start issue started a few weeks ago as intermittent dead spots and progressed to a total starter failure. The dealer inspected the car and quoted me $880 for a refurbished starter (material and labor). They agreed to perform the work FOC after I complained to the service manager. I suspect Honda of America agreed to a warranty repair even though my car was out of the 3 year/36,000 miles warranty period.
Starter reliability is a major issue on the 2013/2014 Honda Accord. The starter used is probably undersized. It is equipped with an old-fashioned armature together with a copper commutator and brushes. Any extended engine start period or external oil contamination will cause the commutator surface to burn, contributing to the dead spots. Continued operation in this mode will end up as a total starter failure.

I have been dealing with Honda corporate customer assistance to resolve the problem. Based on their instruction, I took the car to the local dealer (where I purchased the vehicle) for a diagnosis. After the problem was diagnosed as a starter failure, I was contacted by a District Case Manager for Honda (Good Will Assistance). They offered to replace the starter after I paid the diagnostic fee of $160.94 and additional $150.00 for the starter. I do not believe I should pay over $310.00 to resolve a premature starter failure that Honda is aware is not an isolated incident. My car has under 37,000 miles. I do not believe a starter should fail on an automobile with this few miles.

Frequently, when attempting to start the car, the starter makes a grinding sound. Not sure if this is a coincidence, but if I pump the brakes 3 or 4 times prior to attempting to start the car, the starter properly engages and the car starts. I am concerned that this problem will only get worse. This is my 3rd Accord, 1st V6/Automatic. Already I have been shocked to find that it had a timing belt and not a chain like my 4cyl Accords in the past; that was an expensive repair.

The starter in my 2014 Honda Accord had to be replaced in August 2017 ($975), the battery was replaced in July 2017 ($152). The battery was again replaced in 2019 and once again February 13, 2021. I'm on my 4th battery and the car is only 6 years old. What's going on with Honda?
The 2nd battery was covered under the warranty but the 2021 battery, I had to pay for it at a prorated amount. I've had 5 Hondas before this one and this is the worse one yet and I will no longer be a Honda customer. LOUSY service department at McLarty Honda in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Starter replaced by same original equipment starter. Design defect. Likely will happen again. Have had another 2014 Accord with same problem.

Starter replaced. Replacement Honda part is same part as original equipment. Therefore, it will happen again.

Car died on my drive way, with less than 40k miles. Read enough review about 2014 Honda accord, and was prepared for stuff like this to happen. I will go to dealer to pick up an starter, and try to install it myself with million videos on Youtube.

Yet another case of a defective starter, this time going bad on a 2014 Accord with only 20,800 miles!
My local dealer got Honda corporate to cover the labor and the replacement starter (let's hope this one is not faulty).
But Honda insisted that I pay the $154 diagnostic testing charge, which is illogical since they required me to have a firm diagnosis before they would respond to my complaint.
I was also charged an additional $75 for a "deductible"--not even sure what that means. But at least they covered the main expense, as well they should, given this is a well-known defect.

Just after 5 years and 45000 miles my Honda starter went down, car wouldn't start for now reason, and Honda dealer is saying that it would cost me $755 to replace it. When I talked to Honda Customer Services they refused to do anything else and even when I asked them to transfer my call to their manager, they said, we don't have any manager. She was simply lying to me.
I have one more Honda CRV 2018 model and I think its starter will die too or it will have another problem right after it will go out of warranty, so the lesson is... NOT TO BUY HONDA AGAIN.... Real disappointment from Honda!

One day all of a sudden my car engine would not start. Hit the Start/Stop button all I kept hearing was a click even though all the lights/stereo worked. Tried to jump start it, no luck. I realized I was stranded in a parking lot with my two small children, aged 3 and 7. If it was not for a good samaritin who gave me us a ride back to my home, I would have been screwed. I had the car towed. Even the tow truck driver was shocked to see this Accord out of operation since they have a reputation for being reliable and the fact this is a fairly late model car. Mechanic informed me I would need a new starter. Total cost of repair including parts and labor was $650. Honda if your reading this, you need to stand by your customers better and do a recall. There is no reason a starter should fail at ~50,000 miles. You also jeopardized my family's safety.

Starter just went out this weekend. Just got a loud grind when I pushed the start button (kind of similar to the sound you get when you try to start it when it's already running). Of coarse it left me stranded at 9:00PM on a Saturday night, because why would these things happen at 8:00AM on Tuesday morning, right??? Anyway, I am beyond frustrated, as the car only has 47,000 miles on it and already has a failed starter, had to replace the battery already as well. What's next?! I had a 2005 Accord for 12 years and 170k miles on it with no problems, which is the only reason I "upgraded" to this dud. I regret getting rid of my old one. Never again. I am DONE with Honda.

My Honda Accord 2014 does not start intermittently. Started November 2018, it did not start 1st time. After many times of trial, since I was home alone, I called my insurance come to jump start the car and drove to O'Reilly's. They sold me a most expensive battery. I thought I had no other choice . Now I know it should not be the battery problem, with such low mileage. Anyway, it worked fine at that time. That time my car only has 35,000 miles. But after one or two months or so, the problem started again. Now I know it is the battery problem. Also it is persistent. Although it happens intermittently, I have been so nervous to drive the car out, since I never know when it is going to happen. it happens does no matter hot or cold, wet or dry, it can happen any time. I usually have to step on the gas pedal several times then it can starts. Yesterday, after ten times trials, it did not start. I wanted to give up and call insurance. But in the 11th time, it started! My car only has 39,000 miles. The battery is under warranty ( for 3 years). Cannot be battery problem. What should I do?

Starter replacement, I got quoted by dealer $930.00 to replace and I can't afford it. I'm checking out bus schedules until I can get my tax return to afford repairs. I bought this car based on its great reputation. I am shocked this would happen with only 38.5 thousand miles on it. Give me a wave if you see me at the bus stop :(

I bought this car brand- new in 2014 I had just made it to 30000 miles and I started having trouble with the starter. I had to replace that then the alternator and finally the battery. I got a Honda because I thought they were dependable.

Would have never expected to be replacing my starter on my 2014 Honda accord with 61,000 miles on it.
Honda is better than this.

At 78k car started having problems getting anything when turning the key...then wait and it would start...getting it to happen more..I'm guessing its the starter....But MY CEL is also on for a P2422 Code for the Shut valve gear. I already had that fixed and keep getting the cel back...will update when I find out more.

The 2014 Accord LX started having issues with starting. Several times jump starting seemed to work but yet battery check was fine. Many times waited for 10 minutes and it started. Finally figured out the issue. If you do not have your foot on the brake the car is designed not to start - a safety thing of course. If your foot was firmly planted on the brake it would not start. But if you just barely and very lightly touched the brake it would work. That saved a service call as I was stranded out of town on one occasion. Used this "just right" touch of the brake for a while but it was starting to annoy me. Told my dealer about it - since he could not get the car moving in front of his service desk, and he got it running only after I told him the trick to get it to start. Their annoying solution was to replace the starter for a SMALL sum of $625. I suggested just a brake sensor switch or a sensor on the starter - but he said it was an all in one deal with starter. So after a $625 charge on my card no more problem. Not sure if the starter or switch was replaced but it is working fine now.

I have purchased the 2014 Honda Accord and it has run very well in last three and half of years. It could not be started a couple months back. The battery had been replaced. Later this month, it happened again. The car was brought to dealer and mechanic spent two days and did not find any problem. But the car could not be started three times in this week--twice today. This must be a manufacturing issue as there were so many complaints on this. I will bring this into dealer to check again. Will update if there is any news.

My 2014-ACCORD-LX, 43,000 miles, had issues of starting trouble for few weeks. One day vehicle was completely dead, and I thought battery issue, called AAA. The Technician checked battery life and asked me to replace the battery. After changing battery I also faced same issue. And within a week again the car was completely dead. Called AAA towing service, took the car to nearest Honda dealer, because not sure about the issue and I had the transmission warranty. After the inspection, they told its started issue and quoted $875 for replacement and not cover under transmission warranty. $431 for spare and $375!!! for labor.
I have no choice at time... PAID. Later checked other reputed service station estimations, labor charge was $100, max. Raised this issue to Honda customer care, and they doesn't care anything about issue and told me starter is a wear part and need to replace every 40K miles???. And Honda doesn't control the dealer's service cost!!!. I can see the forums, so many customers are facing the same issue, but Honda doesn't care about their reputation or reliability. I don't know, how are we believing that Honda is making reliable cars and who is rating this? If there is a system to raise the reliability issues, I can file a complaint.
