This is a really scary new safety problem for my car. In the past week, it seems to randomly occur without warning while the car is in motion—suddenly the multifunction screen and/or sound system and/or dash appears to fully shut off as if the car was intentionally powered off, but I’m driving. It then “rebootsâ€â€”all while I am Operating the vehicle in traffic! When the dash shuts off the gas pedal also disengages until the system reboots—a couple seconds later. In the past week the dash shut-off happened 3x, whereas the other screens shutting off happened 10 or so times in the same time period. The battery is just 3 months old, so it should not be a battery issue. The current battery was replaced prematurely at 2 years of age, and I have no idea if there is a link between the prior battery drain issue and this.
The dealer repair shop serviced the vehicle yesterday and said it just needed a software update which they did, and the problem should be fixed. On the way home today, the dash/engine shut off again in heavy traffic on the freeway. The deceleration jolt was so significant I thought I’d been hit from behind. Fortunately it rebooted again in a couple seconds and I was able to continue driving. The car will go back to the shop tomorrow for another look.

While driving 65 mph on a rural highway and coasting down to a 45 mph posted speed limit ahead, I stepped on the gas pedal to keep the 45 mph speed and I felt the gas pedal acted like a brake, slowing the car. Removing my foot from gas pedal allowed the car to continue to coast. Stepping on the pedal again caused the same braking action. I doubled check that I was using the gas pedal, and then step on the brake and the brake worked. I was able to coast to the side off the road and stop. I notice the oil light and service lights on and the engine was off. I shut the car off and waited. After a minute I restarted the car and no more issues for now. The outside temperature was around 95 F.

I was driving on Interstate 95 in the left lane at about 75 miles an hour during heavy traffic when the engine just completely lost power. Really felt I was going to get rear ended as the car would not respond and there was no where I could pull off or the power to get me moving. After a lapse of about 10 seconds the car responded again and has been ok for the past few days. I am on vacation so can't get it to the dealer for a few more days but this is a potentially deadly problem. I have read other complaints about the same problem but it seems Honda is not taking it seriously.

Purchased my new Accord EX in July 2015. I started sensing a problem with loss of power early own but decided to ride it out, hoping it would eventually subside. But it didn't fade away. in December of '15 I was driving home on a medium heavy traffic and I approached an intersection and signaled to turn left. I waited for the traffic to clear and proceeded to turn left. As I started to turn, the car lost all power and turned off. In traffic. I felt it go out and tried to keep it going by pumping on the gas pedal like crazy but it didn't change. So I quickly pressed the start button to turn it back on and pumped the gas to get it out of the intersection.
I had similar events where the engine lost power but when I pumped the gas it regained power and did not turn off completely. In January I took it into San Francisco Honda and they said there was nothing wrong. I told them that the car was not safe because no telling what could happen if it turns off again. I was mad! the service dept said they would call the "technician at American Honda" and that he told them to check the valves because they might be too tight. and they did that and told me they had adjusted the valves and that it should be fine now. That was January. I took the car and the problem continued. Several weeks ago I was driving and came to a stop. a big truck was in the distance approaching the intersection and I proceeded to drive across the street; and it happened again. the car lost power as I started across mid intersection as the truck approached. I pumped the gas pedal like mad and it finally engaged and drove out of the way of the approaching truck. So I took it back to San Francisco Honda and told them about the problem once again. They called me later that same day to tell me that they could not find anything wrong with my car and thus there was nothing they could do. I told them to check their file and read about the same issue when I had brought it in in January but they just said that they could not replicate the problem. I told them to call "the technician" and they said they had called and that he could not recommend any fix.
So I asked them what they expected me to do; I told them that I purchased the car band new; but that it definitely had a big problem and that I would be exposing my family to major danger if that car loses power when I am making a turn in front of traffic or trying to cross an intersection with oncoming traffic. I told them that the car needed to be fixed so that we are not exposed to those dangers in a new Honda.

From the first week I had this car, at low rpms, when I step on the accelerator, the car will suddenly just fall flat and lose power. If you let off the accelerator, the car will usually go; however, on multiple occasions, it has taken 2 or 3 tries to get the car going, sometimes requiring a stomp on the gas pedal to break it out of whatever problem it's having. I have had it to the dealer twice, and on both occasions, I got the expected news that, "sorry, we can't duplicate the problem," and I am sent away with my tail between my legs. What's a consumer to do? This problem makes the car a death trap! I never know when it's going to happen - it could be pulling away from a stopped position, slowing down then accellerating as in stop and go traffic or, worse, accellerating to merge onto the Interstate, or moving into the left lane to pass another vehicle only to get no power. What is going on with HONDA!!!???!!! I have had two Honda Civics (1991 and 1995) and this is my third Accord (2000 and 2009 previously), and I have never experienced this problem before. How can Honda say they have never gotten any complaints about this problem, when here we are discussing them amoungst ourselves and sharing that we have all reported it? Please Honda, before you start losing your #1 position, please, please, please start investigating this problem and come up with a solution!

The car was in reverse going down an inclined driveway. The car bucked slightly and I hit the brakes. The engine shut off and oil can and battery lights came on. The backup camera turned off, but the radio display stayed on. I coasted the car out into the street turned the ignition off and on again, and engine power resumed without issue. I drove the car approximately 2 miles to a store, parked, shopped, and returned home without incident. Another website my I looked at said low idle speed could have cut the engine power. I was not able to replicate the issue.
I do not want to go to the dealership and have them tell me because the problem cannot be replicated, the issue doesn't exist.

Pretty damned annoying when you buy a new car and wish you had not...I can feel the car surge while driving on the freeway the loss of power shows when the tachometer reaches 2000 rpm and then drops to below 1500 rpm and then jumps up again- whether it's in gear or in neutral.

On multiple occasions, I've been coasting down to a low speed to try to catch the timing of a traffic light, and other similar situations, and when I pressed the accelerator, nothing happened for what seemed like forever, but likely only two or three seconds. However, those few seconds almost caused me to get in a wreck because I couldn't get out of the way quickly enough. I took the car in for repair, but naturally no problem found. And they said they had never heard of such a situation. Yeah, sure.
This seems to happen only in the summer months. Now that it has gotten cooler, I haven't noticed it happening. But during last summer it probably happened at least a dozen times.

My dad bought the car from the dealer as the 2nd owner. The first owner had service maintenance at the dealership; it had a high mileage (169,345) around that. They gave the car a gold certificate. My dad put 2000 miles on it and gave it to me in WA. I live in CA. I go to drive home and when I went to pick up speed, the car lost power with the mil on and wouldn't go. I pulled off to the side.
My brother came and we recycled the key mil off. We figured it might be bad gas as my dad didn't drive it much due to his health. It would continue to do that all the way home but now mil on. ck codes p0304 misfire confirmed cylinder 4. I changed spark plugs, switched coils and did a compression. It was all good and the misfire stayed on the same cylinder.
I cleared the light and noticed that when I push on gas too fast mil would not set a dtc code but flash then stop, still causing the car to go in limp mode. But not setting the dtc code… I am also not trying to ruin the car. I feel Honda cleared the mil light and sold my dad a piece of s*** - I don't think where he lives requires smog so my dad would have never known if monitors were not set. I still haven't been able to get evap set but the car still does this anytime I go to press gas too fast. This is so dangerous as on the freeway. I have no control when the car goes in limp mode.
Update from Mar 30, 2022: Replaced fuel injectors and took carbon off valves some other shop said replace coil and then said update pcm or replace thank god i disnt do all that because none of that was the issue even though code was p0304 cylinder 4 misfire . diagnostic isnt reading a code from a scanner quit ripping people off mechanics its bullshit. Ck part before charging money they dont need to spend
