Accord Touring

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

I previously owned two Honda vehicles and had great luck with them, so decided to buy the Accord, Touring trim. I've noticed a terrible noise under the dash and only thing the dealer can recommend is to take the dash off which isn't what I want to do with a brand new car. They've already had it one time and it didn't fix the problem. On top of that, I've had several issues with the screen going totally black when connected to my phone. The dealer said there was a software fix for it. I'm beginning to think that Honda can't make good cars any more.

Accord

Three months into purchasing this 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Touring, I have been hearing awful squeaking noise on the driver side of the dash board. This happens every time the car goes over a normal road bump. Currently, the car is with the dealer and I am told that Honda does not know or have solution for it yet.

At times, I have to insert a piece of carton or something between the Heads Up Display (HUD) and the windshield glass to reduce the noises.

If this is not fixed properly, I intend to pursue legal actions against Honda. My previous car for 16 years was 2001 Honda Accord V6 and was the best car I ever had. This new generation of 2018 Accord is full of Thermo Plastic, a technology that is not well understood yet vis a vis its applications to cars.

Accord LX

The problem was a squeaking in the back that is only heard in the back. It’s not constant, so kind of hard to bring it to the dealership to show them the problem. Very annoying when it happens.

Accord Touring 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100 miles

I'll add this to the growing list of this issue that is known to Honda, per my service manager and others here. I have a video, however another person added one which is the exact sound, although louder when your actually in the car. Like others, the noise started very soon after I picked up my new Touring 2.0. It definitely comes from the HUD unit and is so loud the radio doesn't blank it out.

I had an appointment to fix it after a rep at the dealer told me they had a solution that would absolutely fix the problem, however the dash would have to come off. I was totally not happy about that, knowing that removing the dash on a brand new car would open up a new can of worms. Plus, hey, it's a new car - I don't want it taken apart for a darn squeak!

When I got there, the service manager, who knows me well since I held my previous Accord for 17 years, got in the car with me to go over my complaints (there's another regarding the warning system to add separately). He informed me that in fact, they have tried to fix this issue (yes, with insulation) on other HUDs, but after several tries the noise came back.

He advised that I wait until all these complaints keep hitting Honda and they come up with a real solution to this annoying problem. Add to that, it's embarrassing after buying top of the line vehicle and have passengers hear this constant squeaking.

Others are correct, it is heat/vibration related, however here we are in October and with the sun still warming up the dash, that noise may not stop until it's very cold out, only to come back on the 1st warm day.

I certainly hope there will be a fix other than pulling the dash apart. I absolutely do not want my beautiful new car pulled apart. So buyers beware... I love the HUD, but hate the noise it makes.

Update from Sep 18, 2022: My dealer had suggested I wait until a good fix was found by Honda corp and so I finally had that done in the summer of 2021 at 13,700 miles. Afterward the HUD display noise greatly improved but not totally gone. However this summer 2022 I did not hear it at all. As a reminder, the noise is caused by summer heat on the dash, making the plastic expand and rub with the vibration of driving.

Accord Touring Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81 miles

At approximately 130kms (four days after purchase) on a hot day 2018 Honda Accord Touring Hybrid started making loud squeaking noise/or electrical popping noise from close to Heads Up Display (HUD) from dash. Took car in and they had it in the shop for 72 hours, said they used tape under HUD display and problem would be fixed. Less than a week later noise came back louder and has prevailed even on not as hot days. Car is now back in shop for an undisclosed amount of time. It's now so loud people can hear it clearly when talking on Bluetooth and ask what the noise is in the vehicle.

Evidently we unknowingly purchased a vehicle with this known Honda defect and there is still no solution for the defect. Have driven our brand new vehicle for approximately 10 days in the first three weeks we've owned it - the rest have been spent in the shop and in a Honda loaner vehicle. Appalling. Honda should not be allowed to sell vehicles with this defect - especially now that it is a known defect.

DO NOT buy this vehicle until they fix the problem across all models!

Accord Touring 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 200 miles

I've just bought a brand new 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring for about a week. Just a few days ago I've noticed there is rattle/squeaking noise come from the dashboard. It seems the noise come from around HUD and is sensitive to cabin temperature. When I started on the morning the cabin temperature was about 70F and the noise got really bad. Then the weather got rainy and cold, and the noise was temporarily gone. The noise is intermittent and get worse on bumpy road. Just contacted the dealer and they ask me to bring the car in for an inspection.

Accord Touring 2.0L Turbo 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,400 miles

The HUD makes an awful squeaking noise, especially when going over any kind of bumpy road surface. It sounds like Styrofoam rubbing together. It does this constantly, and began when the car had less than 1000 miles on it. If I pull back on the HUD unit I can silence it, but as soon as I release it, it makes noise again.

There is a noise coming from the HUD piece that is in my dashboard. It sounds like there is a piece of styrofoam rubbing against something. It just started now that the temperature has changed.
