Accord Sport 2.0t

  • Manual transmission
  • 27,774 miles

Vehicle was towed to dealership of purchase because of engine revving and loss of power with acceleration. At this point, the vehicle was less than 2 years old, the clutch had 27K miles, and all service had been performed on time at the dealership of purchase. The dealership said the clutch was worn, the flywheel and pressure plates had hotspots, and the failure was due to my driving habits so it would not cover the warranty. I thought this was ludicrous considering I had been driving manual transmissions since 1985 in Europe and US and never had a clutch fail before 75K.

I didn't have the presence of mind to ask to see the worn parts. The service manager called Honda Corp who would not honor its own warranty based on the diagnosis that I was at fault. The extended warrantor said it would not cover the repair based on the diagnosis that I was at fault. I called Honda Corp again to request a goodwill repair and they said I should have had my car towed to another dealership for a second opinion. So I paid for the repair. From this point on, I began to question the legendary Honda reliability and started giving Honda Corp and its affiliates the side-eye. Especially because the newly installed clutch continues to perform without incident after putting 69K miles on it.
