Imagine you have a mini SUV for the cargo options, and when you open the tailgate, the latch freezes up so when you try to close it the tailgate actually bounces back at you... A screwdriver and lots of leverage will pry it back into position until the next time, but you have only a few "fixes" before it's permanently damaged. Last Thanksgiving, my well meaning sister-in-law opened up the back to load up the holiday goodies only to listen to me curse like a sailor trying to release the latch so we could get to dinner on time! As I am only 4'10" tall, reaching over the tailgate through the rear window was never an option, so I paid the piper - a lot. Despite my mechanical problems, I LOVE my CR-V - the engine will last until it rusts off its axles. My real BEEF is with the Racket Honda has created, forcing Honda owners to use only dealers for certified repairs, at standardized (over) pricing.
My car is now past the Honda Care warranty, so I am in the market for an honest mechanic in York, PA. My husband, on the other hand has another 17,000 miles worth of "bend over." BTW, almost NONE of the maintenance and repairs on either car has EVER been covered by the warranty. We'll be skipping that expense next time.
