About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
While driving on the freeway at approximately 55 mph, I heard a bumping noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. I pulled over and found the steel belt had separated from the front passenger tire (fisk classic P205/70R15 95S M+S.) immediately noticed was the steel belt separation caused damage to the front passenger tire wheel well. I was advised not to drive the vehicle due to the fact the steel belt separation may have caused damage to other parts of the under body on the vehicle. I had the vehicle towed home.

During test drive the vehicle stalled upon braking. Thus leading to 3rd party inspection request. Upon receipt of photos and estimate for safety repairs notice a counter offer was sent to the dealer to which they declined to repair or reduce the vehicle. I have concern that the vehicle will return to the lot and an unknowing buyer will be at risk.

The contact owns a 2004 Honda CRV. The contact stated that the rear driver side tire was constantly losing pressure abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised there was nothing wrong with the tire. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who located a defect in the rear driver side wheel. The mechanic advised the contact that the wheel had pin holes that were causing the tire to loose pressure abnormally. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a discount on the wheel replacement. The wheel was not replaced. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 72,500. Updated 07/20/11

My 2004 Honda CRV has had 4 rims crack at the weld. When Honda was contacted they informed me that this wasn't a widespread problem and was more than likely from abuse. I have seen other issues on the web and wanted to make sure this material defect was noted in your system.
