First the dash electronics just blinked. Now they are really scrambled. I can't read the odometer, gas gauge, temperature, or anything else. The dealer gave me an estimate of $650 - $700. Seems to me this should be a Honda recall. I've read several complaints about this in both the CRV and Civic.

Started messing up in mid January flashing on and off, scrambled display etc... then gradually glitched out every single day, some times worse than others. After having tried to research this, I found to be a known issue with the instrument cluster on some CR-V's. I have not brought it to the dealer as I do not have $700.00 to fix it. I am going to ask they fix it at no cost or I will file an official complaint. This vehicle is my 3 rd new Honda and has been quite disappointing with many small and now this really big issue!
Update from Oct 9, 2014: So this went away when it warmed up outside and didn't happen all Summer. Now it is getting cold it is starting to flicker again. I assume it will keep messing up until next Spring, Very frustrating and so wrong. Anyone else had this happen?

I am so disappointed with this vehicle, constant annoying issues; covering on passenger sun visor split after 1 year, instrument cluster after 3 years, heat shield on catalytic converter dislodged from mounting, city gas mileage sucks. This was my first, and last, import purchase, will stay with American made in future.

Problem started in June 2012, just about the time my 5 year warranty is about to run out. My dash board just flickered slightly. I called the Honda dealer who was not much help. The problem gets worst over the summer and worst when I parked my car under the sun and now in the rain. I simply can't read what my gas gauge, odometer or any other information on the dash. When I brought my car for a regular service maintenance on July 10, 2012, I asked the service to diagnose the problem. The problem being diagnosed is "Internal Failure in the Gauge Cluster". It will cost me roughly $700 to fix. My jaw dropped for this expensive fix billed to me.
I am very unhappy with Honda's way in dealing with this problem. This is obviously a manufacturer defect, not a driver's problem. I have never driven a vehicle in my life where the dash flickers in ways you can't read the information and be made to pay for the problem.
I feel Honda should deal with this problem by paying for this simple fix for customers that encounter this issue to ensure customer loyalty. I just want a hassle free driving experience and this should not be an expensive fix for Honda to deal with and will be of good overall business decision in the long run. If Honda simply refuse to pay for this simple fix, I will not buy Honda in the future.
Update from Oct 29, 2012: Honda Canada offered to pay for the part and I pay for labour.

Just bought our first Honda in July and ever since purchased the dash board that holds information such as your mileage, gas gauge etc. has blinked. Last week it went haywire and our mechanic says that Honda says the only fix is to replace the entire thing which will cost $700.00!!! Very frustrating and we don't have the cash to fix it, so we are stuck with not knowing how much gas is in the vehicle etc. Looks like we will look into either a Toyota in a couple of years or scrap the foreign vehicles and go back to domestic vehicles!

An SUV that is only 3.5 years old should not have an issue with the dash cluster. In fact, it should NEVER have an issue with the dash cluster. Why should I have to pay for something that is an obvious defect in the car? I am royally ticked off that I had to spend close to $700 on a problem that should never occurred. I have a letter into Honda Corporate now to see if they will reimburse me but my hopes are not high, I'm beginning to wonder about Hondas when I have been an avid Honda owner all my life. I have a Honda Pilot that also has problems with the steering wheel. Not Happy!
