CR-V EX-L 2.4L V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 72,792 miles

I have always trusted Toyota and have been very happy with the reliability of both a Camry and then brand new Highlander. Wanted to down size to a smaller gas conscious car and purchased a used Honda CRV (with only 56,000 miles) which I loved and had been highly rated. I gave my Highlander to my daughter who needed a reliable safe car. I noticed a catching, pulling to the right when accelerating in a turn and did not think much of it. Until recently when the car was making a noise which I thought might be associated with low power steering fluid. The mechanic said that there must be a leak and checked it out for me. At 72,792 miles he hits me with a very expensive fix to replace the rack and pinion. Wow. Never would I expect that on a Toyota or Honda. I wondered what did I do to damage the steering mechanism on this vehicle. My husband found several complaints with the same problem on the Honda CRVs. I am glad that I gave my daughter the Toyota.
