problem #2

Nov 012008

CR-V ES 2.4L Dohc

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,000 miles

New from factory the problem was there. Dealership Checked the car in their parking lot and said was OK.It was not. This car was a lemon, always pulled to the right, leaked steering fluid, AC broke down, radiator fan fail, door locks fail (locked me inside the car), Always whining steering noise and now this air bag problem, CAR CAN'T BE DRIVEN ANYMORE AND PARTS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN So much for Honda quality and service. HORRIBLE CAR. Now Honda will spent a fortune given its customers rental cars. THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVE.

problem #1

Dec 182010

CR-V EX-L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

I started with the problem of this CRV pulling to the right. I could let go of the steering wheel and it would literally take me off the road within seconds. I thought, no problem, it just needs an alignment. I took it to the Honda Dealership here in Logan Utah. They replaced a part on the left rear camber adjuster and we hoped that would fix it. The alignment was done and all checked out okay. The problem was still there. I took it back to the dealer for visit #2. They spent several hours on the car looking for what was wrong, tried to adjust the steering in some way and gave it back to me. The problem was still there. I took it for visit #3 to the dealer. At this point I think they were as frustrated with me as I was with them. Their solution this time was to pull in another CRV like mine and swap parts until they could figure out the problem. I was not satisfied with this method of repair.

I was referred to another mechanic in Hyrum Utah at Hyrum Tire. I spoke with Glen there and he spent 3 hours on the car and learned that it was the steering rack that was causing the problem. Glen took everything apart including dismounting the tie rods from the rack so that the rack was free. The rack would bind up and get tight as the steering wheel turned and the rack would not turn freely. I was happy about this just because of the fact that Glen figured out what was wrong with it and now the problem was visible. I went back to the dealer and told them what I had found out, they of course were not quite sure and wanted 12 hours to figure it out for themselves. Oh the downside was if the dealer could not figure out what the problem was they wanted me to pay the 12 hours of labor at about $85 an hour. I said no thanks and took my business to Glen for the repair.

I called Honda about 10 times at the corporate level and explained my irritation for this due to the fact that this car is a 2007 with only 35,000 miles on it. #1, a Honda should not have this problem, and #2 it only has 35,000 miles on it!!!! I googled the problem and I could not believe the amount of people that have the same problem. Honda was rude on the phone to me and one guy even laughed at me, I have never had such horrible customer service especially from a huge auto maker like Honda.

Long story short, Glen at Hryum Tire did the work, replaced the rack which was $1000 just for the part, and then labor on top of that. The car drives PERFECT now! I will never go to the dealer again for repair, Hyrum tire has earned my business for all my vehicle needs. Honda needs to own up to the problem and compensate those of us with this problem. I have obtained a lawyer and am seeking reimbursement from Honda through him and if I have to go to court, it would be worth it because my case is strong.
